So far there are two Democrats giving a rebuttal/response to Biden's SOTU speech. Does the President's party always do that? I know the opposition party gives a rebuttal, but I don't remember the party in power doing it.

Two Democrats (And One Republican) Are Now Scheduled To Respond To Biden’s State Of The Union

According to Politico, Tlaib is expected to go on the attack against moderate Democrats, some of whom are viewed as roadblocks to President Biden’s agenda — particularly the policies and agenda items supported by the far-left wing of the party.

“Tlaib will praise Biden’s stimulus bill and make the case that liberals have pushed aggressively for his agenda, according to a summary of her remarks shared exclusively with POLITICO,” the outlet reported. “She is also planning to argue that Republicans and a handful of intransigent Democrats have blocked progress on lowering the cost of housing, health care and prescription drugs.”

Hmmmm... I wonder what the CBC's response will be. Equity, social justice, racism... racism... racism.

I would rather be kicked in the balls than to have to listen to Joe Biden mumble his way through his speech.
Listening to the Muslim and Black responses would be another swift kick.
The republican response will be soft pedaled and cowardly.

I guess I will just wait until Wednesday and see what appears here from people who are masochists and listen to all of this.

I have always loved watching the State of the Union Address, but like you, I can't stand the thought of watching him and hearing what he has to say.

It is very unusual to have same party "rebuttals" to a SOTU speech, and it speaks volumes to the fracturing of the democratic party. I can't remember it ever happening before, but I can't say it's never happened. I'm sure the DNC really doesn't like this, but probably agreed to allow it so they could have some oversight on what is going to be said by their own party members.

No matter why Tlaib and Aldred say they want to do it, and no matter what they say, it is not a good look for Biden to have his own party members coming behind him delivering a follow up. They say they are going to offer support for his programs, but it's also been leaked out they are going to attack moderate members of the party who don't support their progressive ideas. Either way it makes Biden look weak. Bill Maher said it perfectly by saying, "It's like sacking your own quarterback."
