South Korea Plane Crash

Ouch, sounds like a hydraulics system failure to me plus landed long OR total incompetence. Fuel burn off and blow gear down with nit bottle designed to do just that. Why would they have a huge concrete barrier at end of strip????
Bird strikes don't do that.

Bird strike. Did not have enough power to make it down. Crew was warned of heavy bird presence previously, but not much a pilot can do under those circumstances. The area is seasonally inundated with birds.

I heard that too. I thought that Putin also apologized for this.

At the end of drag strips they put a net to stop cars or a sand pit, On Carriers they have a net barrier to stop fighter jets.
Here they put up a concrete wall? Well it stopped it alright.
Never heard of a concrete wall at the end of a runway. Maybe there is a hospital or a school at the end of the runway.
Never heard of a bird strike ripping off the landing gear either. What's with that?
Media is saying it's a Boeing problem. Once you are down Media like to kick you in the nuts.

But if it was a problem with the gear it's more than likely a maintenance problem.

Or terrorist attack/suicide. Same flight profile as the Pentagon.:sshrug:

Seriously doubt it's on Boeing.

Someone on FNC said that the 737 can mechanically deploy its landing gear using gravity if power/hydraulics is lost. Can any of our airedales here confirm/deny?

Worked on 5 different navy aircraft as a hydraulics mech and flight engineer. ALL can deploy using nitrogen blow down and gravity, pilots blew it. I heard flaps were not extended which says hydraulics,,,,,, he came in long and fast. Pilot blew it. I don't know 737 system but many jets have a RAT (ram air turbine) which supplies emergency hydraulics and electrics.

^THIS^

Last I read is the 737 does not sport the RAT. That runway is over 9,000 feet and it sure looks like he was way long on the runway. Something seems off about this and it will be a while before any report will be out. I wonder if they took on a flock of birds including multiple windscreen hits.

The same team is in charge of examining the black box that was in charge of tracking down the White House cocaine
They know whose cocaine it was. Expect that news to be released after Jan 20th. (Still no new USSS Director announced yet.)

You would think the black box should be able to withstand a nuclear blast. How are they damaged beyond use so often?
Well they are rather "robust". They are designed to withstand 3,400 Gs and temperature around 2,000 F for an hour. That G value equates to an impact at about 310 MPH.

From what I have read the CVR is intact and the FDR is "partially" damaged. There is a chance that some of that data on the FDR can be decoded, just don't expect it any time soon.
