Thank you Ken. I knew with all the posters with naval aviation background on the forums, someone could educate me. I'm no expert, but 3400 Gs sounds like quite a force. It just sticks in my mind that for something as important as the "black box" that there are a lot that are deemed a total loss. Maybe not, but it just seems that way.Well they are rather "robust". They are designed to withstand 3,400 Gs and temperature around 2,000 F for an hour. That G value equates to an impact at about 310 MPH.
From what I have read the CVR is intact and the FDR is "partially" damaged. There is a chance that some of that data on the FDR can be decoded, just don't expect it any time soon.
