Were you giving birth or in the ER? Just asking b/c I've heard that their maternity ward was top notch. I loved the Maternity Ward at St. Mary's but would never recommend the hospital otherwise.

If it was like 4 or more years ago I would say hell no to Calvert. Actually I did say hell no I lived here in Lusby and went to Holy Cross in Rockville.. I believe they are getting better. They have improved a lot since I gave birth to my kids. I think back then, that Calvert was not equipped to handle any case besides a normal delivery.. My cousin gave birth early and went to Calvert. Her baby almost died as well. I was in the room when she delivered the baby and he was very quiet. The nurse did all the stuff that she had to do to the baby and then gave him to her to breast feed. The little one would not latch on, and I told my cousin something doesn't look right with him. He was purplish.. The stupid nurse ignored the fact that he was changing colors and still try to get the baby to latch on. I got mad I told the nurse that the baby looks like he can't breath. That is when she grab him and took him to get oxygen.. I will never forget that day. Come to find out that the little ones lungs weren't fully developed.. They had to fly him out to John Hopkins. Because, they could not handle a case like that.
My sister gave birth there also.. She had a normal delivery with no complications thank god! But the staff was rude to her. All I have to say is that, they pick the wrong girl to be snotty with, because she turned into the biggest ##### in that hospital that day.. LOL She was sick of their crap.. I remember that she had to go to the bathroom and they told her that she need to ring the nurse to help her get up so she would not fall. Well, she rang the nurse and no one came. Now, it got to a point where she just could not hold it any more and no one was coming. She rang again I think for the third time. This time the nurse said "You need to stop pushing the button it is not going to make the nurse come any faster". My sister went off, and just said eff it and pee in the bed.. The nurse was pissed that she had to change the bed sheets.
But like I said this was more than 4 years ago and hopefully they improved not only the hospital itself but the staff as well. You don't need #####y nurses when you are giving birth.
Good luck..

I delivered ONCE as Southern Maryland and it was my LAST experience. If I had to do it over again, I would go to Civista (in a heartbeat.) :yay:

In My Opinion
Southern Maryland.
keep away from anything in PG county if at all possible.
there is no requirement for schooling for PG doctors, they only have to show the ability to be trained.

think Granny from the beverly hillbillies.

Oh Good God where is my head? I don't know why I thought of Southern Maryland as St. Mary's (sorry it's been forever since I've been back to St. Mary's.) Sorry I would have to change my view to Southern Maryland. Sorry...YIKES I can't believe I would mix up St. Mary's with Southern Maryland. :smack:

I delivered my daughter at Southern Maryland Hospital Center 10 years ago. The staff was GREAT and I have no complaints.

i have delivered 2 babies - normal deliveries at Civista- new technologies and security measures too.

I delivered mythird child, our daughter, waterbirth, with a mid wife in Anne Arundle county - Arnold- Special Beginnings.

Awesome experience! Highly recommend water births!

Haven't heard god tings about So. MD. Go with your gutt instincts. take the tours and sask questions.

I heard that all newborns in PG county are given a gun so they can cap the nurses ass if the beatch dont bring the formula on time.
