I had my son at southern maryland almost two years ago. the staff was great with the exception of the nurse that was on duty when I first when in, but after she left, everyone was perfect.

I have no firsthand experience.....but my sister delivered her baby at Civista in October of 2005. She had an absolutely wonderful experience.

I delivered my daughter at Southern Maryland Hospital Center 10 years ago. The staff was GREAT and I have no complaints.
How old is your daughter now?

I will never go to Southern Maryland Hospital again. I walked in there and told them I was in labor, and they had the nerve to tell me I wasn't. I was very adamant and said "NO. You don't understand...I'm having contractions". Then they said "You aren't even pregnant". I couldn't believe what I was hearing. By this time I was furious and lifted up my shirt to show them my belly. "Does this NOT look pregnant to you? How can you say I'm not pregnant!". Finally, after they said "Sir, men can't have babies" I had enough and walked out of there. I will never go back there.

Southern Maryland.
keep away from anything in PG county if at all possible.
there is no requirement for schooling for PG doctors, they only have to show the ability to be trained.

think Granny from the beverly hillbillies.
Southern Maryland IS in PG County.

I had my last one at Civista. The others were out of the area. The experience was fine, I didn't like my doctor, but he's out of the delivery biz now anyway.

My aunt had one kid at each hospital. Loved the labor and delivery nurses at So. Md, but the maternity ward nurses needed a smack down, courtesy of my uncle. That was over 13 years ago, though. They were happy with Civista.

Had two at Civista. No problems. Might get a nurse or two who aren't especially warm but most of them are great. My second child was born 13 minutes after I got there and boy did those nurses hustle for me.

Grandson was born 21 months ago at Southern Maryland, 7 weeks early, everyone in labor and delivery were great. The problem my son and daughter-in-law had was with the Doctor in charge with the Nursery, she left alot to be desired. Mom came home after 4 days, but the little one had to stay another 10 days. They were making trips from Mechcanicsville just about every 4 hours for feedings.
She kept giving them the run around about when he could go home, his jaundice levels would go up and down and during one instance when he should have been recieiving treatments, 24 hours went by before she started the treatments again.

I was born at Physicians Memorial (now known as Civista Medical) and I turned out fine. :lmao: On a serious note, everybody is going to have a different experience at each of these hospitals. Of all the folks I've known to have babies at either of the hospitals, the highest vote is for Southern Maryland.

I heard that all newborns in PG county are given a gun so they can cap the nurses ass if the beatch dont bring the formula on time.

:killingme I once had a nurse from another hospital tell me that they call Southern Maryland Hospital the "Fort Washington Knife & Gun club."
