Spring water

Does anyone know anything about a little spring on the side of 488 in LaPlata? We have driven by several times and have seen people out there gathering water in jugs. Has anyone ever gotten water from there or know the story of why the pipe is there and if the water is healthy to drink?

I have gotten water from this spring, really tasty. no sickness. Lots of people use it. I try to stop if I have a water bottle with me. cool, clear, water.

Officially, the Health Department recommends against drinking the water. However, that spring has been flowing and used by locals and not so locals for decades. Some come from DC and Va. I have never heard of anyone actually having any problem linked to it.

My family used that water all the back to 1950 before our house had running water. We still stop time to time to have that all natural "cold" spring water, great taste!

Where is this spring?

It is on the side of the road on rte. 488. When we travel from rte. 5 over to rte. 6, it is on the right hand side (west bound lane) somewhere about half way between 5 and 6.

There used to be one just off the parking lot of the bowling alley in Prince Frederick. Saturday mornings there would be a line of cars filling jugs.
