Spyware help?

Here's what's happeneing.
The forums take FOREVER to load, when I search something up on say yahoo all the sites come up, but when I click on the link I want, it goes to some bizsearch or any number of other sites that have nothing to do with what I am looking for. Alot of sites take forever to load. I have gone to add/remove programs and see nothing. I've run spyware and it says it gets rid of things but there is no change. What do I do next (short of tossing puter out the window).

Should I check all the boxes in the result and have them fixed? It says to be careful because it doesn't tell you whether it is good or bad.

There is a website that I am trying to find that you can cut and paste the result log into and it will id stuff that you need to delete.... hang tight...

I sent the log to wherever. It gives you an option to do that. It's being analyzed I guess.

I'm a software engineer.

I have the unenviable task of being the family 'computer' guy.

Which invariably means that whenever there's a problem with someone's computer I usually have to fix it.

The two software links I pasted above are by far the best freeware out there.

Everyone uses them.

It's easy to use.

If you have problems setting it up - let me know.

I did all three things suggested. :yay:
Seems as if after spybot fixed 4 problems the issue was resolved. :yay:

Awesome...

Spybot is a very very good program and I suggest running it at least once a week.

The new version also has a process that runs that will automatically blacklist known rogue processes from occurring.

Don't forget to check for updates each time you run it so that you can get the latest and greatest definitions.

Glad it worked. I know how frustrating it can be when things like that happen.

The above one is decent.

But, you can't beat Spybot because it's free!

And, you can run it on as many computers as you want.

yeah but you get what you pay for .......... the last reviews I read Spybot only removed 60% during testing ...... it 60% is good enough for you great .....

But Counter Spy and Webroot Spy Sweeper remove over 85 %, and I did not recommend Webroot because of the complaints of sluggishness and scans requiring a long time to run ...........

I used to swear by Spybot and Adware ........... then I read a review of Spyware products and tested both Counter Spy and Spy Sweeper ......

Counter Spy has bounced back and forth in reviews ...... but read the latest from PC Mag:

Nine Ways to Wipe Out Spyware - Reviews by PC Magazine

and Counter Spy reviews:

Best Anti-Spyware - Remove Spyware with Free Trial

click on different years to see how it has progressed....

The thing is...

I don't go by what I read.

I'm a software engineer. My job is to code.

We/I have been using Spybot and Ad-aware for years now.

Furthermore - your spybot/virus/adware software is only as good as the definitions they carry. So, you should as routine update your definitions weekly.

Is spybot and ad-aware foolproof? Of course not. Neither is any of the products you mentioned.

Coupled with your anti-virus software the above products are more than enough for the average home user.

Re-boot your machine and run the sweeps again. Some "Spyware", leaves a nasty little program that will aide in the re-installation of the original bug. These are a bit more challenging to locate and remove.
