Someone must have voted for him.
Most locals vote based on name recognition. The candidates know it. Why don't you?

He lost in '98. He's only been in the position for little over a year, hence my point that he needs to prove he can do that job first before running for judge.

Sorry to say cmcdanal you are wrong about that.
He ran and lost in 1994 to Walter Dorsey
He ran and won in 1998 against Joe Mattingly
He ran again in 2002 and won again.
He has been State's Attorney for over 5 years working on 6!

I don't disagree with what you have to say about having to recuse himself from certain cases.
ALthough It is my opinion that that those involved (citizens of St. Mary's County) were excercising their rights to purchase the paper. From all I have read about it; the papers were legally purchased. I never read anywhere that Mr. Fritz had anything directly to do with the purchase or sent anyone out to do this for him. And if you remember the article was neither fair nor truthful.. The head line was "FRITZ GUILTY OF RAPE". (which is a felony) The actual charge having Carnal Knowledge,(a misdemeanor) which if happend today; would not even be a crime
So did you even read the articles in the link that I posted earlier? Wasn't it you, in the other thread about Zylak, that said that no one deserves to be raped? If the whole thing happened today, he would've been charged with rape. Attitudes toward rape have come a long way since the 60's. Bottom line, I'm not voting for someone guilty of a sex offense, who tried to keep that info from me for his personal gain. And on top of that, he didn't pay his child support? What a stand up guy. I'm not voting for him and I think anyone that does needs a reality check.

One of the main issues with Fritz running for Judge is that there is an ongoing case against him in the Court of Appeals. He payed several St. Mary's County Sheriffs $500 each to go out and buy up every St. Mary's Today.

You must have missed that part....

I stand corrected. I've only lived in St M's since '02. I misread that information. It still stands that he has given no real objection to Abrams except that her job came from Glendenning. And that he has so little faith in the system that he didn't even put his name in the hat for the appointment.

Where on earth did that information come from.? Is this fact?
Do you know one of the people that went out and bought the papers? ANd did they tell you that they were paid? And if Mr. Fritz paid a bunch of people $500 Mr. Fritz must have allot of $ to throw away!!!!
If you had been reading the articles over the years about the incident you would know that all of the papers were not bought up.

You did not answer the question.:

This is from the Chit Chat link you reffered to

"The night before the election, six off-duty sheriff's deputies in plain clothes drove around the county, buying the newspapers from newsboxes and local stores, according to court records. Both Voorhaar and Fritz supported and took part in the mass purchase, court records say. The deputies ended up removing about 1,300 copies of the paper's 6,500-copy print run. "

"Further, Richard Voorhaar, then sheriff of the county, approved the plan in advance and contributed $500 to the effort. "
"The deputies ended up removing about 1,300 copies of the paper's 6,500-copy print run. "

I did not see where it said anything about Fritz giving the deputies $500 each to purchase the papers. Voorhaar gave $500 to the cause. I assume that the $ given by Voorhaar was for the actual purchase of the papers and not to pay the off duty emplyees for doing it. And its looks like they only got 1300 copies of the 6500 copies printed.........
FYI:This case is under appeal and goes to trial somtime later this year.

Archi I do belive that you are way quick to judge another man. Maybe you have a few skeletons rattling around in your own closet ?

Have you not been in this county long? He has been state's attorney for St. Mary's County since 1998, he was re-elected in 2002!

Yes, Mr. Fritz. If you'd finished reading you'd have seen that.

It appears that the majority of people on this board are anti-Fritz. I do not know much about the man, met him a few times at social gatherings, handled a case for a family member of mine in which he did a good job and read all about the supposed dirt. However, there is one thing I will never forget. Richard Fritz took a case to trial that the police screwed up and got a conviction. Some of you may recall the murder of Claudia Pickeral. The young girl who was attacked and murdered after getting off a school bus down in the 7th District. Fritz took that police bungled case to trial and obtained a conviction.

I will vote for Richard Fritz on March 2.

On one hand, I believe that Fritz should be judged on his performance as State's Attorney. On the other, I'm put off by his campaigning style.

I didn't like Glendening, but that's no reason to Fritz to imply a conspiracy by our former governor to thwart the will of the voters. Abrams became judge the same way Kaminetz became judge--a spot on the bench needed to be filled between elections. While I haven't decided who I want as judge, I see no reason to automatically reject an interim choice made by the governor.

I also don't like Fritz's use of anti-liberal (as opposed to conservative) buzzwords. Makes him sound too much like a politician. Ideally, any candidate for judge ought to be above the grandstanding, fearmongering and mudslinging that happens in most elections. Now, Abrams and Dugan may be campaigining the same way as Fritz. I don't know if they are, mostly because I don't attend political fundraisers or other party functions. I'm just going by Fritz's statements in the paper and in his advertising.

No, try again. I am not Mr. Fritz, thanks! I am new to this forum and did not realize that you already replied until after I wrote my reply to you.

Tonio, you just don't like politics - that's why campaigning irks you so much.

 Maybe so. Part of me wants campaigning to be like a job interview. Imagine applying for a job and having another applicant calling you a pinko or a fascist, or alleging that you slept with a waitress.

Sure, I can appreciate the humor in seeing politicians act like spoiled children. It's not so funny when they play those childish games with our tax money and with decisions that affect our daily lives. It's almost like letting my 2-year-old daughter drive the family car.

Sorry If I find your credibility lacking, but anyone who pops up on the forum, makes three posts, all of them saying "Fritz is a great guy" without addressing the multitude of issues already brought up saying that maybe he's not such a "great guy" is not about to sway anyone's opinion. I don't seriously think you are Fritz, it was a joke hopefully if Fritz found his way to this forum, he'd have more to say on the subject.

Don't get me wrong, Fritz may be a great guy, he may even be a great lawyer. My problem with him is 1. if he wants the job so bad, he should have put himself up for the appointment, to not do so, shows he has no faith in the system, and no faith in his ability to undergo scrutiny by the committee, and submit his qualifications for inspection. Instead he plays on the emotions of the electorate. 2. He has made no factual objections to the incumbent, Abrams. He again is playing on the emotions of the electorate by labeling her a liberal without backing such statements up. and 3. He does have some legal issues in his past and his future both. Few people can lay aside their personal experiences in favor of objectivity and even if Fritz were able to do that, the mere appearance of bias on his part would be enough to get certain cases kicked out on appeal. Criminals are already getting through loopholes in the system, why should we add one more?
