EMS Priority

Priority 1 means they are in serious condition and you transport without delay. The ambulance will transport with lights and sirens.

Priority 2 means they are still in pretty serious condition and you transport with only minor delay. The ambulance will again transport with lights and sirens.

Priority 3 is given to less serious patients who are not in any immediate danger. The ambulance will take them to the hospital without lights and sirens. Just because you see an ambulance without lights going, doesn't mean there isn't a patient in it.
EX: stubbed toe,

Priority 4 is the worst to hear. This means that the patient requires no medical attention because they are now deceased.

Does anyone know what it means when the police ask the dispatcher to check for codes and the dispatcher says code A or code N, etc. Just curious cause whenever they say code N they always send back-up.

I just would like to clarify for some people out there. A priority 4 does not always mean they are deceased. A priority 4 is no medical care required. In the EMS world some companies will do a routine transport to the hospital or from, that would be a classified as a priority 4.

A = Person may be armed, B = DANGEROUS, L = Approach With Caution, M = Assaults police, P = Prior Arrest For B&E/Burglary
