What is wrong with crabbing for a living? Keep Baltiwash up North.
For those who don't like it here, remember the same road that brought you here will take you back out.
Too bad there aren't any Natives left here. We could ask them if they think you and the crabbers should leave as well. Or are you just saying everyone who came here after you got here should leave? You know, since you coming here isn't excess growth, it's everyone else that's the problem.

This comment, told to me when I came here by a native, means that if you don't like it here, leave. I disagree that there are no "natives" left. I have worked with them over the years at NATC, usually a spouse or child of a farmer trying to make ends meet. Even people who moved here, married a farmer, told me that the farmers would like to see the Station leave. You should get out and meet the farmers/watermen who live here and work here.

Those farmers and watermen sold their lands at enormous profit and self gain to the very people you're now saying should leave. Buy back our lands at the same profit they gained, and lure us somewhere else with the jobs that lured us here, and we'll leave.

Otherwise, those same farmers and watermen can accept that change is natural, and when you elect people that encourage growth, you'll have to live with the results of that growth.

Those farmers and watermen are not natives. I'll give you a clue how you can tell: if they are descended from Africans or Europeans, they are not natives.

See my point yet? You want to shut down growth as soon as your house is built? Who are you to be setting that limit? It is extremely hypocritical to say that building your home is acceptable, but the next guy that comes along shouldn't be allowed to because that ruins the "character" of the place you decided to invade.

Farmers, I don't know about. But the watermen like the base being here because it means there's someone to buy the fresh seafood they pull out of the water. The old-timer business owners who *don't* like the growth are just bent because now they have competition and can't just do whatever they please and still make money.

Today, the County Commissioners voted 4-1 against moving forward with the charter government recommendation. Next, they voted 3-2 in favor of having at least four public hearings on Code Home Rule which is the form of govt that Charles County adopted a few years ago.

Why would anyone vote against public hearings? Do they not respect the rights of the people to express opinions or just be informed?

It's interesting that the vote was split along party lines. That's unusual for issues like this on the county level.

The vote was to hold hearings or not to hold hearings. The vote wasn't about if they should be open or not.
