St. Mary's Indoor Range First of Its Kind

I'm sure the Thomas' are nice folks. And, it is their business. Kudos for them taking that leap of faith. But it is my belief, there should be waivers for those other than just the 'anointed few, blessed by the State to wear a costume and a shinny badge'
I met them at a few USPSA matches at Sanners a few years back and they are very nice people.

I don't see what they are asking for as being unreasonable considering the litigious nature of our world these days. If you don't feel it's worth it, you're entitled to your opinion, however with the climate of hostility toward the shooting sports, I'm sure youre going to have fewer and fewer options in the future, to include restrictions on shooting on private property.

I hear shooting all the time in Calvert, (not referencing the 'Special use range for the 'anointed few, blessed by the State', on Exelon's Nuclear property), and don't think anything of it. Unless I hear sirens, (never have yet), I know it's just target practicing.

Per the bolded, the power plant has a range for their nuclear security officers to practice on.

If I may ...

Are these neighbors newly relocated, from California, the State? It is truly a shame that you have had to alter the use, and enjoyment, of your property because of some weak minded neighbors.

Well they "ain't from around here", that's for sure. I could certainly continue to shoot as much as I wanted to...but it's the wasted LEO trips all the way to the island that I hate to see happen time and again. They have better things to do with their time and gasoline that I help pay for.

I keep my DNR shoreline and offshore blind license up to date...so come hunting season, there's still plenty of shotguns going off from my place. But then they are going off all over the area during that season, so....

I'm not aware of another range like it in St. Mary's County...are you?

No. However, "First of it's kind" indicates that it is a unique gun range in nature. Should have just said "First of it's kind in St. Mary's county"

The OP is akin to saying "St. Mary's Lowes is First of it's Kind"

Yeah..like: "it's the only indoor shooting range open to the public in St. Mary's. "....

Call up the Editor and vigorously protest his word choices. That's what I would do. Make sure you question why a story about a business in St. MAry's would be in the Life in Southern Maryland section too. :yay:

Some of us believe the title should be accurate to the story and others believe it shouldn't and then rant about 'fake news' and improper sources and such....

F corn and beans, THC is the new favored crop. However, having ties to the fed I cant. I’m considering a move to hops, but its a ~100K investment for plants, trellises and extra equipment. How do I get Jim’s wallet open for a loan?
One thing about hops though, Japanese Beetles love their leaves.
We grew hops in our yard at the house in northern Illinois.
Found a kaolin clay based product that worked pretty good at controlling the beetles (plus dosing the yard with milky spore a couple years running), and is non-toxic.

I hear shooting here by SMCM all the time, nobody down here complains that I'm aware of. I know many many service members who have very little to no range time. I know I myself had very little range time in the service. Maybe 50-60 rounds, .38 and 9mm downrange. 10 rounds of 12 ga. Over 20 years. And I retired in 2003. A range safety refresher isnt a bad idea. I think one thing it also does, the $15 fee is weed out folks who are not a little bit serious. I didnt pay it, since like Gil, a family membership makes sense for us. 10 minutes away if someone slows me down on Mattpany, my daughter and I have unlimited range time, my son can join us for $10 an hour on our lane.

A number of years ago, lots on the point of land forming the opposite side of the cove we are on were bought up by some "out of towners" and large fancy homes put there. I'm sure that when we discharge a firearm on our place, it probably sounds like it was right in their yard, despite being several hundred yards away. :frown:
