Actually, I remember the little diner at the end of Golden Beach road where the Exxon is today. Was it any good? I don't remember...

Sorry, I don't ever remember going there. In the olden days if we were ever "up north" we only stopped at Earl's for dinner.

Have you tried therapy for this disorder? I usually just stop any place where the food is good when I'm hungry and eat. Delaying gratification can be good, but like all things...moderation.

I would rather drive home and take my FAMILY out to dinner with me, then to stop on the way home and eat by myself.

But that is just me.

With all these mom and pop restaurants it comes down to economics. Rent/land and taxes are high, customers are few, they take shortcuts and buy from Sysco, and can't employ a chef because all the money is going to bills. Food and atmosphere nosedive, customers leave, and business is no longer sustainable.

A few have made it: CD, Ruddy, Linda's, etc

It is a shame to see a local business go to shambles. 20-25 years ago, St. Mary's Landing was THE place to go for a great steak and seafood. They were still allowed to serve food dinner style. They would bring all kinds of different food to the table in bowls and you just helped yourself. Health laws finally put a stop to it. But, the food, and service were right on! The Belvedere in Lex Park was the same way. Served a great steak and prime rib. Would bring big bowls of garlic dill pickles and sauerkraut to the table. Pickles were to die for. After dinner, the bar was a really nice place to hang out. Lots of middle age locals on the weekends.

Where did all the good places go?:bawl:

Yes. All of the places you named have one thing in common...good food! It is absolutely possible to have a good restaurant in CH. It only takes culinary talent and management skills.

It does make you wonder, if a good Culinary Arts program at CSM would make difference. The problem is self-evident: a lack of management skills. People don't seem to know HOW to run a business. Consider St. Mary's landing, how do you think fixing the false ceiling would cost? Not much. Clean restrooms are even cheaper...not to mention a basic necessity. I don't see any re-investment. How about a nice outside seating area. They need the guy from the TV show Resturant Impossible!!!

I think the Tech Center in Leonardtown has a culinary arts program. And a dirty bathroom is a deal breaker.

You need to pay a decent wage and buy real food to do that.

I'm glad to hear there is a program at CSM. Hopefully, it will have a positive impact in the long run. Yes, a nasty bathroom in a restaurant id foul and a deal breaker.

I don't think it is CSM, but it is adjacent to the high school.

Not really. SML was terrible. Still despite that, the parking lot was full. Either they know something we don't or even failures are succeeding in this area. Just a thought...

Or a lot of people settle for mediocrity. :ohwell:
