St Mary's looking at Bay Ferry?

The cute little "ferry" that runs the Point Lookout to Smith Is. service on weekends in summer months is about all the route can support...
So .... you're saying there's not much to do on the Eastern Shore area, or there are not that many attractions to warrant people paying for such a service? /s

I'm guessing the summer seafood restaurants on this side of the bay are probably similar to summer seafood restaurants on the other side of the bay. And since there really is nothing special over there, ie, unique attractions, it's not economically viable. But, but, but, but what about those that want to shave off some time while heading to Ocean City, or some other ocean seaside area, or to go to Chincoteague to watch one of Elon's or NASA's rocket take off into space?

And though marine diesel is a wee bit cheaper than at the local Wawa, it would still majorly eat into any profits. Then there is the maintenance costs. What do you reckon the annual costs are for regular maintenance of such a vessel able to carry cars and passengers?

I'm thinking they didn't study hard enough about putting a bridge down here, within Calvert or near the Point Lookout area. Just think of all the extra development and more housing, and jobs, lot and lots of moar jobs. And the extra tax revenues which county governments love to tout, er, love to get and spend. Or maybe some palms were greased to make sure that didn't happen?

However, as an aside, can't charter captains, say those with a six pack licence, since there are so many of them, offer a service to the Eastern Shore bay locales? Or is it as not economically viable as well?

It's the same parameters every time they talk about another bridge, And no, no "money changes hands". At the end of the day the juice isn't worth the squeeze for another bridge being built down here, not to mention that the base for the eastern terminus is now under water. The infrastructure isn't here, or really even buildable. Hell the environmental reviews, if they started next week, would take twenty years. The Thomas Johnson rebuild would be like your kid building a little bridge for Hot Wheels cars in your living room out of LEGOs compared to this.

What "tax benefits" would there be? The Maryland system is set up so that any increase in assessments causes a general property tax increase. The localities don't get a sales tax spiff (except Ocean City has a "Food and Beverage" sales tax for itself. Actually, all of Worcester County has it), although most localities have a Lodging Tax.

I will say that there were people here, in both Beaches, who were advocating for a Bay crossing here, coming off 260.

Haven't we ****ed up this County enough?

Simply a direct observation of the facts as they exist. The existing ferry service is barely viable. I leave the wishful thinking and pie in sky stuff to others.
