Coffee conglomerate Starbucks is being sued for $5 million over the amount of ice the drink-maker puts in its iced beverages.

According to The Telegraph, Stacy Pincus filed a 29-page complaint in Northern Illinois Federal Court in Chicago last week. Pincus alleges that Starbucks customers are being misled because the company’s iced drinks contain just over half the drink they are paying for.

“A Starbucks customer who orders a Venti cold drink receives only 14 fluid ounces of that drink – just over half the advertised amount, and just over half the amount for which they are paying,” the complaint reads.

She has a point. I suppose you can ask for no ice, but that kind of defeats the idea of an "iced coffee". That's always been a source of annoyance for me - you get a "32 oz" soft drink and there's really only maybe 16 oz of actual drink and the rest is ice.

Starbucks' excuse is lame: "our customers understand that we don't really mean 24 oz of coffee when we say that on the menu."

then order it with no ice and drink it warm

its 24oz of iced coffee for god's sake, not 24 oz of coffee with additional ice.

Plaintiff brings this action individually and as a class action on behalf of the following Class: All persons in the United States of America who purchased one or more of Defendant’s Cold Drinks at any time between April 27, 2006 and the present (the “Class”).

Wow. That should be a fun class to administer.

The stupid is strong with you today, isn't it?

You too...exactly where does it say you are getting 24 oz of coffee or any particular amount of coffee. If you want 24 oz of soda...order it without ice.

If you think this lawsuit "has a point", then you are all for govt regulation of the specific amount of ice/coffee ratio with enforcement and fines...and the stupid rise in cost that would result.

Btw...what two ingredients make coffee? (A. water strained thru ground coffee beans)...so coffee is just flavored water. What is ice? (A. Water)

Says the lady who doesn't think ice should be counted in the volume of 'iced coffee'
Seriously, this is one of the stupidest positions you have ever taken, and that is saying something.

I think what she really means is they put too damn much ice in the drink not that ice takes up some of the cup volume.

I've gotten a sweet tea at mcdonalds and have had one drink out of it before there is no liquid left.

This whole thing is ridiculous. If you don't like a product, don't buy it. Try it once and then decide. People will sue for any reason any more to make quick bucks because they are starry eyed; no pun intended. It is like that 'safe space' thing. Boo hoo. Get over it, and move on. I will wager that the majority of people that patronize Starbucks are Liberals. I make a darn good iced coffee at home, from the leftover coffee from our morning brew. There are more idiots than I thought out there. Sad.

This will be the last time I respond to you. I will treat you like the other trolls on here, like Tito, PrchJrkr and a few others.

Well, sometimes it is necessary. You were waiting 'just like a spider'! I will say you are good for laughs, but after that not much else. Troll on, Tito. It doesn't bother me, but you seem to be bothered by me. Love it! :roflmao:

What do you think about the 5 mil lawsuit against SB? I will put this here now in your honor. :tap:

I am old and my days are numbered according to God's plan. If I can make a difference in the future of my children and their children, I will attempt to do that. I state my opinions on this forum about the current state of our country. I, also, volunteer when I can to make a difference in others' lives, and write to the WH and our elected representative about what I agree and disagree with. The thing I hate most about forums, or any other social media is that people really don't know people, really, and make assumptions that they have no clue about, and have no basis to think what they think. And, some that put their 2 cents in never contributed to any commentary that would have used their brain, or even amounted to 2 cents. Sad.

I've gotten a sweet tea at mcdonalds and have had one drink out of it before there is no liquid left.

There are two simple solutions to that problem

Checkers is good for that. They fill the cup to the top with ice, then add the tea. I always ask for very little ice.

Or don't buy it in the first place.

When I go to Starbucks, which is rare because I make I better for less at home, I get regular coffees. They always ask if I want room for cream. I say no and I get a full cup of Joe. This is about as frivolous a law suit as I have ever seen

This is typically my solution to life's little first world problems. Protest with my wallet.

However, Starbucks does indeed have "iced coffee, Venti (24 oz)" on their menu. You are in fact NOT getting 24 oz of "iced coffee"; you are getting 14ish oz of iced coffee and 10oz of ice. Since you like to play word games, "iced coffee" indicates coffee that has been iced down, not ice itself. What it should really say is "ice and coffee, 24 oz".

When I go to Wawa and get a fountain drink, the cup has the volume printed on it and in that case it is understood that the cup holds 44 oz. What you fill it with is up to you. When you are being served a drink and have no control over the ratio of contents, stating on a menu that you will receive 24 oz of the product when it's not even close is highly misleading, if not an outright lie.

And if this is the most frivolous lawsuit you've ever seen, you need to get out more.

My solution to the Starbucks problem: they should have coffee ice cubes - ice made from coffee. Then the drink will be all icy cold, but when the ice melts it doesn't water down the drink. AND the cup will be legitimately filled with 24 oz of coffee.

the coffee isn't "iced" unless it is poured over ice. Thats how icing works. thats also how they get the flavor people are looking for when they order iced coffee. If you want it strained of the ice so you just get cold coffee then ask for that. The menu does not say '24oz of coffee over ice' it says 'iced coffee-24oz'.

again, this is just stupid. Iced coffee and iced tea are supposed to have ice in them.
