You wanna go to:Can someone tell me where to find the start-up for XP on my computer? I had something in there that I used to need right off the bat, but no longer do; so I want to take it off my start-up when I first boot up my laptop. TIA!
You wanna go to:
Start ---> Run --->and type msconfig
the startup tab is all the way to the right, be careful in there....

you can google search individual entries, odds are.. you dont need 90% or more of the #### that is in there!Found it! Thanks!
But there was a LOT of stuff in there that is unidentifiable by the name. How do I differentiate between what I need and don't?
use the method I described above and you can get an explanation of the program.Found it! Thanks!

We'll not have any rear-entry or sliding through back-doors here, bucko!
Software Explorers is a part of Windows Defender... she might not even have that installed....easy way
start
settings
control panel
the choose "Software Explorers"
make sure the category drop down is set to startup programs.
you can manipulate it from there.
this also shows the hidden stuff that ends up in startup that you dont even know about.
Also good place to look for malicious ware that has been added to the startup.
If you are talking about the actual executable, you can google that "whatever.exe"They're all located in:
HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run
except for two that I know I put there, which are located in "Common files".
Do I do a google search for the command name to determine what it is?

I know this is a silly question but,,,,, did you happen to check to make sure of what you were removing, or disabling?Awesome; it launched MS Defender, and that was a snap! I just removed everything that had "publisher unknown"; all the others appeared legit. Thanks!
