Start-up menu in XP

In My Opinion
Fine; except that damn program (that I wanted to stop launching) still launched on start-up.
I had a spyware type thing that used to keep launching even after I removed it.
then I found another hidden program that reinstalled it if it was missing at startup.

But wait, there's more...
If you describe the program, tell us it's name, what it's doing, maybe someone will recognize it and have a better input.

It's the desktop manager for my blackberry ... to sync it and back it up. But I don't use the BB anymore, so I don't need this program anymore.

Well, that should be easy! Control Panels / Add/Delete Programs / find the BB entry and remove it.

Wait, you're going to tell me you've done that already, right?

are you sure it's not a Service? you can go to the Services Tab when going into the msconfig and disable it there or go to your Administrative Tools in the Control Panel and open up Services.

They're all located in:

HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run

Also - look in HKCU\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run

Sometimes (keyword sometimes) vendors will place startup items in HKEY Current Users so it is user based, not machine based...

also, check in runonce in both locations - I have seen things get "stuck" in there and never delete themselves (after running for the first time)...
