From the Maryland State Police Office of Media Communication: Maryland Vehicle Theft Prevention Council Urges Hyundai, Kia Owners to Get Free Updates Following TikTok Challenge Thefts
Due to recent videos being posted on social media, the public is urged to use several steps to help reduce the chances of your vehicle being stolen. Never leave keys in your vehicle, close and lock all windows and doors when you park, park in well-lit areas, never leave valuables in your vehicle and utilize an alarm system and/or anti-theft device. Hyundai and Kia are also offering free updates of theft deterrent software on certain models.

On 2/28/2023, Tpr C. Holder conducted a traffic stop on Hermanville Road, Lexington Park, MD. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted which revealed suspected Crack Cocaine. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Lawrence Charles Balch, 28 of California, MD. Balch was arrested and transported to the St.
Mary’s County Detention Center where he was charged with Possession of CDS: Not Marijuana and Possession of CDS: Paraphernalia.
On 3/1/2023, Tpr C. Holder conducted a traffic stop on Loveville Road at Independence Drive, Mechanicsville, MD. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted which revealed suspected Crack Cocaine. The occupants of the vehicle were identified as Ronald Dean Nichols, 60 of Clements, MD, Julie Anne Gotte, 55 of Clements, MD, and Marvin Lydell Somerville, 60 of Loveville, MD who were all in possession of Crack Cocaine. Gotte was found to have an active warrant through the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack. All three were arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center where they were each charged with Possession of CDS: Not Mairjuana and Possession of CDS: Paraphernalia. Gotte was also served with her warrant.
On 3/2/2023, TFC J. Engleman conducted a traffic stop on Pegg Road at Pacific Drive, Lexington Park, MD. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted which revealed suspected Cocaine. The passenger of the vehicle was identified as Latisha Anita Bush, 40 of Upper Marlboro, MD. Bush was arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center where she was charged with Possession of CDS: Not Marijuana and Possession of CDS: Paraphernalia.
On 3/3/2023, Tpr D. Baker responded to S Shangri La Drive at Great Mills Road, Lexington Park, MD for a warrant service. Britny Lee Blankenship, 33 of Bowie, MD was located by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and was arrested for an active warrant through the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack. A search incident to arrest revealed suspected Cocaine. Blankenship was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center where she was charged with Possession of CDS: Not Marijuana and Possession of CDS: Paraphernalia. Blankenship was also served with her warrant.
On 3/5/2023, Tpr D. Baker conducted a traffic stop on S Sandgates Road at Grayhound Lane, Mechanicsville, MD. Investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle, identified as Adam Carroll Hill, 49 of Mechanicsville, MD was wanted on an active warrant through the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office. A probable cause search of the vehicle revealed suspected Crack Cocaine and suspected Quetiapine Fumarate. Hill was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center where she was charged with Possession of CDS: Not Marijuana, Possession of CDS: Paraphernalia, and Prescription/Remove Label.
