"Mark It Zero"
I pulled into the crowded parking lot at the local shopping center and rolled down the car windows to make sure my Labrador Retriever pup had fresh air.

She was stretched full-out on the back seat and I wanted to impress upon her that she must remain there.

I walked to the curb backward, pointing my finger at the car and saying emphatically, "Now you stay. Do you hear me?" "Stay! Stay!"

The driver of a nearby car, a young blonde lady, gave me a strange look and said, "Why don't you just put it in park?"

Kinda reminds me of something similar but different.....
A few months ago, I had a fouled battery cable that did not make adequate contact. Being unable to obtain a new battery cable at the time; I used my jumper cables to clamp the bad cable to the battery so my car would start.

I would hook the jumper cables to the battery thus making adequate lead contact; and I would lay the other two leads out on the ground in front of the car; then start it; (yeah.....a jury-rig). ANYway.....I was going through this procees one day at the grocery store or the gas station when a 'little old lady' walks by; sees my hook up and sees me start the car. Her mouth fell open and she asked, "How'd you do that?" I just grinned and said, "It's a trick."

Also sounds like the young woman that was standing crying next to her car. Seems the battery on her key fob was dead and she could not unlock the doors. It never crossed her mind to use the key.
