Where can my husband get a car stereo installed in either Calvert or St Mary's Co? Toyota keeps putting crappy ones in his Corolla and he'd like to buy one on his own and have somebody install it. TIA.

I had a good experience at Best Buy in California. My case was difficult because the previous owner did some "nontypical" wiring with whatever sound system he put in. When he sold the vehicle, he replaced his stuff with some crappy stereo and "hid" under the dashboard all kinds of rats nest, once they figured out the problem, they got the stereo I purchased working in no time. I will admit it took two trips. But they were great to work with. I would recommend them.

Thanks. I suggested Best Buy to him earlier but wanted to see if there was any other places he could call.

If he's a little mechanically inclined go to Crutchfield.com and get a stereo from them. They will include all wire harness adapters (no cutting of factory harness), faceplates if needed and step by step instructions to take apart your particular car for free. I done several installs on my own cars with stuff from and never had a problem. Great prices and customer service too.

A Corolla is very easy. He can do it himself. Buy a single din radio and a wiring harness adapter. Best Buy has the adaptor for like $15 - $20.

Pull the dash out around the radio, take the 4 screws out on the side of the original radio. Take the mounting brackets off the OEM radio and install them on the aftermarket one. Take the wiring harness adaptor and the radios wiring harness and splice them together, color to color, and plug it into the cars harness and into the back of the new radio. Put the radio in and put the screws back in. Slide the dash piece back in and you're done.

I used to own a Corolla I used for car shows and installed about 10 radios in it.

It will fail soon. If he can use Lego's, he can install it himself (if he wants). It is VERY easy to do with the above suggestions. Street Trendz is a good choice as well, Dave does great work.

Yeah if he doesn't bankrupt you to install it. He wanted to charge $80 an hour to put a remote start in my truck, he quoted me 10 hours. Only reason was because it wasn't one of the over priced Viper systems he was selling for 1200% markup. Took me 3 hours to do in the parking lot of my old apartment complex and most of that was at night.

He did not seem very smart either, wanted to argue that the key to my truck was wrong and it should not start. He said that all Chevy's have smart keys, which is false. GM moved the VATS to an internal ignition cylinder system. Rather than the expensive and sometimes failure prone resistance chip.

As for ready to do, YouTube has an installation video for just about every vehicle.

Yep. You can beat the prices, but the instructions and kit are nice.

I can't speak to the key, but most shops will charge more if you bring in your own stuff.

You are correct, but $600 for an alarm system that costs $75 online is outrageous. Plus installation. I also despise the our product lines are the best, everything else is junk. Reminds of the Audiobahn dealers from the past.

I understand that the work can be difficult, my intention was to not freeze my nuts off while installing the alarm/RS in a parking lot. He insulted me with an outrageous rate, then insulted himself with his unprofessional attitude and bad information.

Also Car Audio Stereo - Car Subwoofers - Car Amplifiers and Speakers has given me instructions before. I usually resort to YouTube for hard ones. Or I will resort to the shop manuals I picked up. MECP certification does have its benefits.

Considering you had to have someone hand feed you the information on how to install an alarm on gmtnation.com, your characterization of how you were treated by a local shop seems suspect.

Street Trenz has been a local business for over 10 years and ALL other custom car shops have failed and closed their doors where they have not.

Also your claims of 1200% markup on alarms is ridulous. Most remote start alarm systems start at $450 INSTALLED. You should really get your facts straight.

Glad someone has the interest to search me on the web. I understand its difficult for most custom shops down here to.operate as its a very niche business, and the ones that have opened and closed either did shady work, used the business to cover for other activities, or just could not survive.

As for using Gmtnation for information, you missed about 20 pm between me and the other guy to verify wiring and everything. My last install prior to that was about 6 years, before bypass modules and single data wire control became common place. Just needed wanted to verify the schematics, and wire locations. Its okay, I will take hand fed information over an $800 bill to install and alarm.

PS you are correct 1200% may be a bit exaggerated, closer 400-600% and he wanted installation on top of that. Also my MECP advanced certification expired 3 years ago. Was not worth the effort required to recert.

Also if you would like to gain further interest in my forum activities I am also on Trailvoy.com, SSA forums, realm of excursion.com, automotive forums and somdracing.com. Feel free to see pictures of my other sound and video installs. You should also know that I have participated in IASCA with my old S10 blazer, as well as other competitions.

Its okay I know I'm just some ignorant punk talking #### about your friend.

I never said you were ignorant or a punk. However you are spreading false information about a friend of mine and a RESPECTED local business. I could get into a point by point discussion of where you contradict yourself, but I won't. You are entitled to your opinion, however if you are going to make a point of interjecting said opinion make sure it has some fact to it. Your claim of $800 to install and 400-600% markup are purely fiction.

Let me say it again since you missed it the first time, a remote starter alarm INSTALLED in most vehicles (some vehicles require additional costs/parts) will be $450. That's labor and equipment. That price is for any customer walking in off the street.

My problem is not your bad opinion of Street Teenz, it's your malicious and completely untrue claims. Not every customer can be satisfied, but well settle for the other 99% of our customers that are more than happy and keep coming back for repeated business.

I respect your input, just stating personal experience when I was looking for someone to install it. Dave told me seeing as it was Omega product and not viper installation could 8-10 hours and would cost $100 an hour to install. He also said that he recommended (which I understand him being a shop) that I return the Omega and get a viper and as it was inferior.

When I priced the viper alarms he showed me one for $450, which sells for under $100 online and he said it would be an additional $200 plus parts for install. Then he went into telling me that the key to my truck was wrong and my ignition must have been tampered with. Sorry but the owner of the shop and top installer telling me this information, while acting in an unprofessional manner just did not do it for me.
