Office Depot to Stewart UPDATE 2 Stewart granted release from Gibbs: been told that Office Depot will be the sponsor for Tony Stewart in 2009 when he drives for Haas CNC Racing which is will buy in to. Hearing the announcement of the buy and deal will be made in Indianapolis the week NASCAR is in Indy for the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard, July 27th.(7-3-2008)
UPDATE: Tony Stewart is expected to announce a 2009 move to Haas-CNC Racing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in three weeks. Reliable sources tell Sirius Speedway that Stewart will also announce sponsorship from Office Depot and Old Spice as part of a new, multi-year package with Haas CNC, and that Penske Racing’s Ryan Newman will join him as a teammate, with sponsorship from Jack Daniels. That surprise move comes as the result of an enviable situation at Richard Childress Racing, which now has five potential sponsors for next season, and only four teams. Sirius Speedway has learned that UPS will move from Michael Waltrip Racing’s #44 Toyota to the quarterpanels of Clint Bowyer’s #07 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet in 2009, leaving Jack Daniels in search of a new driver. That driver will be Newman, who is set to sign-on with Stewart at Haas CNC.(Sirius NASCAR Radio's Sirius Speedway)(7-7-2008)
UPDATE 2: #20-Tony Stewart has been granted a release from the final year of his driving contract with Joe Gibbs Racing after ten seasons with the team, sources close to Stewart confirmed for ESPN.com Tuesday night. Stewart will formally announce his departure from the team Wednesday. On Thursday at Chicagoland Speedway, Stewart will formally announce a move to Haas/CNC Racing as co-owner and driver, sources close to Stewart said. Haas/CNC, which currently fields the #66 and #70 Chevrolets, will be renamed Stewart Haas Racing in 2009. Sources close to both sides told ESPN.com the deal will make Stewart the highest-paid driver in NASCAR. Sources also said the Stewart Haas cars will carry different numbers. The #14, made famous in IndyCar racing by Stewart's hero, A.J. Foyt, is available, but sources would neither confirm nor deny that as his choice. Sources said Stewart will own a 50% stake in the organization, but his financial investment in attaining it was not disclosed. As ESPN.com's David Newton initially reported, Office Depot will have a role in sponsoring Stewart's car. Ryan Newman remains the lead candidate to drive Stewart Haas' second car, sources said, though no deal had yet been finalized Tuesday night. Stewart Haas will continue to receive chassis and engines from Hendrick Motorsports. Haas/CNC's current drivers, Scott Riggs and Johnny Sauter, are ranked 36th and 44th, respectively, in the owner point standings. If the team's performance fails to improve its points position during the second half of 2008, Stewart's champion's provisional will guarantee him a slot in the field for the first five races next season, presuming NASCAR doesn't change the rule.(ESPN.com)(7-9-2008)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :faint:

Maybe he don't want to win anymore? He sure did get out of that car easily on saturday. Usually don't see drivers get out of the car when they are sick, no matter how sick they are. I don't think he realizes how big of a task it is to run a team. I mean Haas is freaking loaded with money, they just dont' have the right people. Maybe Tony will fix some of that. Even with getting stuff from Hendrick, they are not getting the best of stuff, they maybe even be getting some of the test stuff that doesn't work so well. Time will tell.

I don't think Haas CNC is a bad team. I just think they have subpar drivers.

Not a bad team, but definitely not the best. They need reorganization. If you go to there shop and compare there shop to a top organization, they are behind.

I think things are about to get interesting. I've calculated as many as 17 drivers that could possibly be in new rides in 2009.

Silly Season just got a little bit sillier. :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

Tony has buckets of money, ownership experience (tracks and teams) and he will bring in his own people. He learned that from the master (Joe Gibbs). I am just sick to see him leave JGR and Zippy, who is staying behind. My love affair w/Joe Gibbs goes back to his glory days with the Redskins and has extended into NASCAR and I just hate to see it end this way. I don't think it would have bothered me as much if Tony had just stayed one more year and retired from NASCAR altogether.

And I agree with you about him getting out of the car. It was an ominous sign.

JGR will be fine.

Joey Logano's gonna be in the #20 car next year. Joey Logano and Kyle Busch on the same team; JGR's gonna whip everyone's asses now!

Owning a sprint cup team is quit a bit different than sprint car teams and a small local track. Sure he has bucket of money, but a lot of the experience people are with the big teams and have security there. Haas has more money than you could imagine and he has not done so well. They do have that new wind tunnel being built at there place, that is going to be money. All i am saying is, don't expect anything spectacular from him next year. I would be very surprised if he wins a race next year. He should have already won a few this year.

Haas' teams perform fine, for the 3,000th time. Their drivers have occassionally finished in the top 10, which is better than some of the other teams are doing. It's just DNFs. Driver is a large part of it. Scott Riggs, Jeremy Mayfield and Johnny Sauter suck, and Jeff Green's a decrepit old hasbeen.

no they don't. Even with good drivers, there stuff it not that great along with the drivers. They don't have near the personel(especially engineers) they need to have teams running upfront every race. I don't think you know what it takes to run a team, or know how involved it is. For instances, Gibbs and Hendrick motorsports have over 90 engineers, dei has 11 (friend who I went to school with intern for them for 2 years), and hass has about the same as dei. I bet you know nothing about how to setup a car, let alone the parts of a car.

You think your 18 second car runs 12's and has over 300 hp.... FOr someone that sure is into racing, you do not know a lot about cars or what it takes to have a competitive race team.

This remark is quite revealing. I don't believe you would even know who Tony Stewart is if not for his relationship with Gibbs. Coach took Toyotas money and ran. This is fallout from Gibbs burning bridges with Chevrolet and ruining Stewarts realationship with them. Everyone is all smiles in public, but I bet you would be shocked if you really knew how people felt. Meaning Stewart.

Hey Andy, before you take credit for everything I say, go back to the Tony Stewart scenario thread and reread my post #7. Hmmmm, wonder where you get your hunchs from? And BTW, the JGR drivers are gonna be at each others throats in 2009 when NASCAR takes thier extra horse power away.

With Toyota stuffing NASCAR's pockets, I highly doubt thats gonna happen anytime soon.
