In February 2007, when a similar situation occurred during the Craftsman Truck race at Daytona, NASCAR saw the situation quite differently.

NASCAR allowed driver Johnny Benson to drive below the yellow line – Daytona's out of bounds line, similar to Talladega – to move from third to second in the final 200 yards. Benson wasn't penalized because "if you can see the checkered flag on the last lap, anything goes," according to NASCAR spokesman Owen Kearns.

I'm still not understanding why Regan was awarded 18th. He should have still finished 2nd, if they aren't going to give him first. He didn't pass anybody else below the line, so why penalize him? I betcha next time, he'll take whoever it is out, instead of racing them clean. I know I would.

Go back and watch the video mouthbreather. Stewart blocked high, Smith went low and Stewart slammed him below the yellow line.

Even I don't watch Nascar and I say Smith lost. That's like a wide receiver going out of bounds for a catch and then running back in for the touchdown. You have to make your moves in the feild of play, regardless.

Helton continued, "Since the end of the race there has been some confusion as to what is allowable during the last lap at Daytona and Talladega. To be clear, as we go forward, there will be no passing under the yellow line at any time during NASCAR races at Daytona or Talladega, period. This includes any passing below the yellow line near the start/finish line on the final lap," said Helton.

Last lap of the 51st Great American Race should be fun.

Thats the mistake Smith made, He should have given Stewart the bumper and spun him out. It was a rookie mistake he wont make again. Gordon ,Busch ,and others would have done it.

Moving him to 18th is a travesty.
