Yes, we call them skates here, and he's still got the scars, to prove it...They will light you up, if you get close to them..........

I wanna be a SMIB
As a kid living in the keys I remember swimming with them..one day at a friends house we were jumping off the bridge into the water and swimming to the beach to get out of the water...A friends father (who lived where the beach was) was just walking in the water at the beach..he stepped on a ray..I still to this day can picture that man screaming..he screamed and screamed must be horrible pain.. :frown:

This stingray stuff is worst than jaws. Im never going in the water again.

Skate actually don't have the toxins or barbs or Debs or Meg's. :lmao:
Sorry...... Skate are "cousins" for lack of a better term; of the Sting Ray/Eagle Ray.

Hey, I just remembered something from the Discovery Channel.
WellwhadUknow'boutdat?

Tell that to him........If it was a "stingray", it's still called a skate, here.................Landlover.

cbs3.com - Woman Killed In Freak Eagle Ray Incident In Fla.
Jorge Pino, with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, said a woman was on a boat with her family off Marathon, Fla. when an Eagle Ray jumped out of the water next to the vessel Thursday morning. The animal reportedly struck the 55-year old woman who fell backward and suffered a severe head trauma.

Initial reports had indicated that the animal's sharp defensive barb, located near the base of its tail, had lodged in the woman's neck.

Talk about dumb luck... at least she did not die from getting her boob stuck in a mouse trap or something...

WDF. So worth the wait.
Where the southern shore of the Rappahanock river meets the bay is Stringray point.
Named because John Smith stepped on a stringray there. He almost died, but the natives took him around the point on the northern bank of the Rappahanock and up a small tributary where a plant grew that would counteract the effects of the ray's sting.
That is now known as Antipoison Creek
This is exactly the type of useless yet, interesting knowledge that I admire. Do you play Trivial Pursuit?
