I'm pretty sure Radiologists have to read the xray within 24 hrs after it's taken. (Correct me if I'm wrong). As far as the report being typed up, I have no idea if there's a time limit.

The tech is to look for obvious things and get the radiologist prior to the patient leaving the facility,if they see a blatant abnormality. Then,the radiologist does a wet read which means they have checked it for anything urgent,but it has not been transcribed. You are not waiting for it to be read then,per se,but for the transcription. Any doctor can write on the order to call with a wet read/make it a STAT order,and the results are to them within minutes,usually with the pt. held until the ordering dr. says ok to leave.
