wjz.com - Fuel Tanker Stolen From Gas Station In Baltimore

(WJZ) BALTIMORE WJZ.COM has learned a fuel truck has been stolen from a gas station in South Baltimore.

Captain Mike Perry reports officials say that the truck operator was refilling the gas tubes at a gas station on 3100 block of Vera Street, when a black male, wearing a blue jump suit, got into the driver seat and took off.

Police say the driver tried to get back in the truck, but the suspect pointed a gun at the driver and told him to get out of the truck.

The truck is described as a 1997 Peterbilt with dark wood. On one side it says "Baltimore Tank Lines." There is also a silver trailer attached to the truck.

The truck's Maryland license plate is 436-F45 and the tanker has Maine license plate 126-8185.

There may be some front end damage to the truck, because the suspect struck a fence on his way out.

The truck was last seen heading toward Interstate 95.

The driver was not injured.

Wow. I'd love to think something THAT big will be spotted easily and recovered before anything crazy happens.

Well...

Pardon moi, but.....

Who the @#%$ would want to steal a gasoline tanker truck? :eyebrow:

...off the top of my head;

Someone who wanted to see what the response was to a stolen, loaded tanker.

Someone who was planning on using it as a weapon and wanted to see what the response was to a stolen, loaded tanker.

Seems to me the response sucked.

I was fearful that your 2nd response would be the one we would be experiencing this evening. :jameo:

Hmm...got a point there. To use as a weapon is the only possibility I could think of.

Otherwise- what are you going to do with it? Wouldn't your neighbors be suspicious?

...and given the possibility of a gas-truck bomb why did it take so long to find it?

Big azz truck going down I-95- how hard is it to follow?

You think about that...

...for a moment. How many other big azz trucks are going down the road? You ever fly? You ever try and see what you can recognize as you are taking off and landing? Sometimes I can't even find 695 from a few thousand feet. Get much lower and you can't see very far. And it's not like 5 or 10 helicopters are on stand by 24/7 and at the disposal of local lawmen.

Finding a tanker truck is not impossible but it is not as simple as one may think.

I dunno.... with our security awareness posture today I would have thought they (Homeland Security) would have bumbed the security threat level up to High (right now we are at Elevated), instituted road blocks and tossed up all sorts of scouting choppers and whatnot. That's what should've happened anyway. Seems there is some work to be done there.

This has happened before, but it was back during the days of the fuel crisis. In that case, they truly wanted the fuel, not a bomb. They'd steal the truck and offload the fuel as quickly as possible, then dump the tanker on the road.

...If we just kill our enemies and make them quit, we'd have no problems. We need more offense and less defense. When was the last time a Kraut or a Jap even jaywalked in this country?

The last thing anyone wants to do is let it be the one who hits the panic button and let everyone in the region sit in a 3 hour back up over a false alarm.

I couldn't agree more. Another reason for you to leave the GOP.

Yeah, the last thing we need to inconvenience a bunch of people in the name of antional security.

...a bunch of people did squat for national security we'd be at peace for the next 1,000 years. Searching me doesn't help. Searching you doesn't help. It wastes resources, it wastes time and it accordingly contributes, hugely, to complacency.

Our state of fear hurts us.

Our state of fear hurts us.

This complacency has been around for well over 20 years. Question is, how do we get rid of it in place of real awareness and desire to combat our enemies.
