Strange cat tendency

My wife and I have a half Siamese/half "something else" (not sure because the father is unknown).

Either way, our little mutt has a strange tendency. She has this little fake fur string toy that has some feather on the very end of it. It used to be attached to a stick and you could whip it around, etc.

It has since been pulled off of the stick and now she drags it around by her mouth all through the house. But while she is dragging it, she is yelling very loudly (mouth full of "fur" toy). Then she drops it, sits next to or on it, and yells loudly for several minutes. And nothing seems to alleviate whatever problem it is she has.

Do you think maybe she is upset that it is broken? She doesn't really seem interested in playing with the toy at all. I've tried throwing it around for her, but to no avail.

ALSO, she sometimes treats it like a baby, in the sense that she cleans it as if it were her baby.

Any ideas?

Yeah – you have a weirdo cat like we do… ours does the same thing ‘cept her toy has ½ a stick still attached. And I do believe, like Baja said, it has kitty crack in it but then again, maybe yours was dropped on her head at some point they way I suspect mine was...

hahaha that is quite possible and, in fact, would explain a lot.

I don't think the toy has catnip in it, however she is pretty much an all around weirdo, so we'll just chalk it up to that.

Our cat did that with her "kills". Maybe that's what yours is doing. Even though it's a toy, the cat feels like she "defeated" it and wants to show you what a brave cat she is and wants the attention. We also have a cat who would to that with the kids' stuffed animals. Drag it out of their rooms and cry until we went over and praised him for being such a brave warrior for defeating the stuffed animal.

My kitty does the same thing with an octopus toy on a string that we got from Target. We keep it on top of a low bookshelf and every day he climbs up on the chair next to it to drag it down. Then he carries it around the house with the little stick trailing behind him (sometimes even up the stairs), meowing at the top of his lungs. If he sees you, he stops and sits down waiting for you to come play with him. He has never reacted to a toy like this before (he's about 5 and a half years old) and it doesn't even have catnip in it.

In My Opinion
I will tell you what is strange.
one of our cats has an obsession with the heating vent that is on the wall at floor level in the living room.
When ever the heat comes on, he hears the fan, runs to the vent and lays with his back against it.
This dries out his skin, then he starts to itch, then he licks at it.
Every winter he goes bald right in the center of his back... cant get him to stop doing it.
Come spring when the heat is off, the hair grows back and he looks good till the following winter.

It actually took a few years of wondering WTH was wrong with him before we figured it out... Some few hundreds dollars later.

My Stella does the same thing.
I bought 2 pieces of fur ( they were made like a key tab/fob) at the RenFest in Annapolis to use a cat toys. All real fur, like mink, no catnip. I also have a few ermine pelts for toys.

She drags that mink fur piece around and MEOWS..day and night... I call her, she comes running with the fur and drops it and comes over for attention.
After a while I hid her toy and she stopped the meowing.

I agree with others here, it must be a hunter/prey behavior. No catnip in the fur.

She was a kitten rescue, did have a viral infection as a kitten, and has never been a mom or been outside. Go figure......

The vet said there is something in plastic that tastes sweet to cats - that's why mine were in love with grocery bags.

Agree... I was told it was either animal fat or fish oil. Makes the bags easier to open and not stick. Some makers use corn starch too!

Weird Stella likes to chew on those electric cords that come with chargers, etc. Esp if it is made in China. Duct taped is wonderful to stop her eager teeth!! LOL!! ( ugly..but it works!! Sticky side OUT)

All cats are strange - and worthless.

Nothing but hair-ball hurlin', clothes-snaggin', carpet shreddin', urine spewin', draperies climbin', Christmass tree topplin' destructive chunks of the animal world.

They be no good.......

Come on, coyotes - get the one left in my house! That way, the wife and kiddo cannot blame it on me......:oldman:

oh my. He's taken quite a liking to LuLu FuzzyButt, and they hang out together. She's the first cat he's ever lived with. Initially she smacked him in the face for sniffing her butt, but now she doesn't care when he does it LOL. I'm not sure why he continues to do it?

:bs: you know you like the cat. The cat probably likes you too.

Would you rather have a dog?

My 18 year old cat does the same, and has done for 17.5 years! We have the same toy from 1994, and she drags it round the house and meows the most strangest noise. I love to hear it, always makes me laugh (after I check she is ok!)

My cat does the same thing! Only his "baby" is one of my shoes -- and it has to be one of mine (no one else in the family). Lately, he sticks to bedroom slippers -- maybe because they're lighter and easier to drag around.

Anyway, once we were out of town and had a neighbor feeding and checking on the cats. She noticed that each time she came over there was another shoe in the foyer. She called us, obviously distraught, to tell us someone must be coming into the house while we're away becuase she didn't know how else all these shoes were showing up! :killingme
