Fifty Charles County Destination Imagination teams advance to the state competition later this month after placing at the regional event hosted by Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) March 9. At regionals, 91 teams competed to solve one of six problems that challenge students to work together to apply creativity, use critical thinking skills and unique talents.
Challenges are divided into three levels – elementary, middle and high school. There is also a non-competitive challenge for Rising Stars teams that include students in kindergarten through second grade. Teams that earn first- through fourth-place awards at regionals advance to the state event set for March 30 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Special Awards
The Renaissance Award went to the North Point Half ‘N ½… ish team, the St. Peter’s Destined2Imagine team and the Davis Elemelons team. The award is given to teams that demonstrate exceptional skill in the areas of engineering, design or performance.
The DaVinci Award was awarded to the North Point North Point… team and the Rising Stars team from Gale-Bailey Elementary School. The award is given to teams for exceptional creativity, unique approach to the challenge and for risk taking.
The Spirit of DI Award went to the Matula Friend-tastic Dolphins Rising Stars team and the Mt. Hope/Nanjemoy Elementary School DIViper Squad team. The award is given to teams for exceptional spirit, teamwork, volunteerism and sportsmanship.
