It just irritates me that people think because there isn't a big mall or major amusement park within 2 miles, kids will be bored. So let's make this a constructive thread listing all the activities there are for children in SoMD.

Sotterley
Annmarie Garden
St. Mary's City
Calvert Marine Museum

All have special classes, exhibits and activities geared toward kids, and they do them all year long.

Obama destroyed America
Point Lookout,
Fishing at any public pier,
Any public beach,
Any of the county parks,
Get some lawn games and enjoy.

Take them to a Blue Crabs game. It's a great stadium and geared toward family entertainment.

Cove Point Park has a playground and a pool. Not sure if the new pool has opened up in Prince Frederick yet but if not, it will in the near future.

I love this thread, hope a lot of people chime in with ideas. We've only lived here a couple of years, so I look forward to adding to my list of places to visit as my son gets older. IMO, too many kids just don't play outside anymore. What ever happened to just taking the kids to a park or beach and letting them play? Or having friends over to play volleyball or kickball in the yard?

I just discovered that Prince Frederick built a batting cage, putt-putt course and paddle boat area. It's hidden from the street.

I think that one has been open for years, think it has bumper boats.

Yeah, it looks like a cool little place. We'll definitely be checking it out when my son gets a little older.

North Beach has a great...uh...beach  And it's for real - proper sand where you can lay down a towel or beach chair and catch some rays while the kids swim.

And Chesapeake Beach Water Park is awesome! From their website:
Eight water slides, fountains, waterfalls, a lagoon, kids' activity pool, and more to treat everyone to a cool time.
For some reason, this is a bit of a secret - I was never sure why.

That reminds me - there's also Breezy Point Beach on the way to NB/CB, which has a nice beach area. The only issue I've found is that at times, there are busloads of out of towners from PG/DC there. So it can get pretty packed.

The county commissioners did a ribbon cutting ceremony there last tuesday, and according to their website the indoor aquatic center is now open.
