I'm looking to do the same ... and I have no idea of where to get a regulator and I'm going to end up getting overcharged because I'm completely clueless when it comes to propane.[/QUOTE]

You can go to Lowes and buy a tank and regulator. I would then get someone or friend to install it for you. They have 100 gallon tanks for 123.00 and regulators for about $30.

I have been looking at the diffrent propane companies myself. I need to get propane for my fireplace. I wanted to own my tank and not lease it. I think Taylor wanted $600 to buy the tank and Suburban wanted something high. Lowes has news tanks for $123! Also, Suburban wanted to charge me 25.00 a month, for the months I don't have a delivery of gas. THAT's CRAZY!!!

When I called around last year Southern Maryland Oil was the cheapest at $3.39/gallon for my 125 gallon tank (fireplace only but we have to use it for heat since electric heat SUCKS).

I got on the automatic refill program thinking it was going to lock in the price-WRONG!!!!!! Just had them fill it at their leisure about a month or so ago and they send me a bill for $3.79/gallon. Called and tried to argue by they pretty much told me to get lost.

Unfortunately, $3.79/gallon is still cheaper than all the other places I called... It's a pain proving that you own the tank as well.

We use Southern Maryland Oil for the big tank that suppliesour office and home. They just filled our up the other day @ $3.79 a gallon too and handed us an $800.00 bill! :faint: We are on the payment plan too and I am so glad!

How do you determine the size tank you need for your house? I just got a proposal from one company. They want to bury a 500 lb tank in the yard. Seems like a bit much, but how could I know for sure?

I just got the propane tank filled, and the price?
4.11 a GALLON! total cost 249.00!!!!!! All I use it for is cooking, and we take most of our meals OUT. :burning: :tantrum

Who is using what company and what are the prices?

Go to Three Mules on Great Mills RD. For a $130 you can buy a 100lb tank that is full and then they will refill it for $79. I use mine for cooking and I have to have it filled every 6 months. I only thing is you have to take it to them to fill it. But hey it's worth it to me. Good Luck!

For $130 or for $179, you can get a new tank? I just got a tank from him and I didn't pay that price? I agree with the refill charge.

For refilling how hard is it to get the tanks back to them? I would love to do that if the hubby would agree. We just had 150 gallons put in from Taylor and it ws $504. So $79 a tank would be awesome.

Does a 100 pound propane tank weigh 100 when empty or full? - Yahoo! Answers
Figure the tank weighs about 70 pounds and is about 5 foot tall. You'd have to unhook it from the supply line, wheel, carry or roll it into something you could get it to the dealer in, then do the same in reverse with a tank that now weighs about 170 pounds.

Propane Cylinder and LPG Bottle Information
If you don't use a lot of propane, there are 30 and 40 pound bottles availabel.

To save some money, that wouldn't be hard to take care of. Say you have kids, or good neighbor, or even a decent buddy to help out. It could easily be done. It's just that a lot of people don't want to take the time or put forth the effort.

True. if runs out on a Saturday of a Holiday weekend, you may not find anywhere to get it filled.

That's when you steal the neighbor's Blue Rhino from his grill. :lmao:

Actually, Third Base in Loveville, Capt. Sam's in Bushwood, and several other places around the county refill.

Also one more side note, these 100 pounds tanks only hold 24 gallons of propane. (I just found this out)

So, Three Mules would work out to be $3.29 gallon and I'm gussing your paying $3.36 gallon ($504/150). Not much of savings unless they are charging you something else or did I miss something.

Here is an informative site:
Western LP Tank - Portable
Lowes sells the 100# tank (23.6 gal) Taylor Gas tanks for heating and/or fireplaces are 100 gallon (420#) tanks. Considerably bigger and costlier.
