Suffolk VA hit by Tornado

Apparently one touched down in Edenton, NC (sort of near us) too. I didn't know until my dad called from TN to find out if we were okay. :ohwell: :lmao:

I'm watching the coverage on Fox 5 and the devastation is incredible. At least 200 injured. So sad, and on the anniversary of the La Plata tornado too.

Wow, I was just looking at the devastation - incredible and so sad! I have friends in the area and am definitely hoping they're all right as well as everyone else affected.

I still haven't reached my sister in Smithfield. My son & ex inlaws in Norfolk and daughter in Chesapeake seem to be okay. Haven't been able to talk to them directly. Going by having talked to them earlier and the grapevine. Prayerfully no news is good news.

Did you hear the part where they said they had to have inspectors come and determine it was a tornado? Good grief, Fox 5 reporter, any moron can see that it was an F5.

I heard 1 death but that was the last I heard. This storm system seemed to move further out than originally thought earlier.

Now a Fox reporter is saying, we can see this was a tornado. I think they were trying to fix their earlier comment blunder. Fox is saying no deaths. With all that damage, I find that very hard to believe. :eyebrow:

What a mess. :ohwell:

I think they have to do that for insurance purposes, but it was clear to me it was a very powerful tornado. Just like the one in La Plata - I saw the devastation from that one minutes after it happened and the swath of destruction it clearly cut through Charles.

I heard that but haven't listened much to the news. I was at the dentist around 11:30 and saw tornado warnings for the Charlotte, NC area but didn't hear much after that.

Right, I understand that. It was the way he said it and it came out completely wrong. He said, the weather service will send inspectors out to determine if this was a tornado. Whenever something like this happens, the media over talks it. I remember the argument in La Plata, first, it was an F5, but they changed that first finding and said, well, it might have been just an F4. People wanted it deemed an F5. It just mattered to them.

I walked miles and miles back near the court house with Fire/EMS and I was surprised at the number of people who never left their homes, even after they were destroyed, or partly destroyed.
