Sugar Substitute

I don't use sugar in my coffee anymore. About a year or so ago I started to look for a substitute. Most substitutes like NutraSweet and Equal seem to change the taste of the coffee so I kept looking and tasting. Thanks to the Internet (praise be its holy name) located Xylitol (a sugar alcohol) which I tried and liked. It looks and tastes like regular granulated sugar. Its good for diabetics too. I Its much more expensive than sugar or the other substitutes but as I just use it for coffee its affordable.

"Sugar Alcohols: Though not technically considered artificial sweeteners, sugar alcohols are slightly lower in calories than sugar and do not promote tooth decay or cause a sudden increase in blood glucose. They include sorbitol, xylitol, lactitol, mannitol, and maltitol and are used mainly to sweeten sugar-free candies, cookies, and chewing gums."

It's on the shelf along with all the others; Nutrasweet, equal, etc.

I made a quick wiki check, notice how politics gets involved in everything?

"Main article: Aspartame controversy

Aspartame has been the subject of controversy regarding its safety and the circumstances of its approval by the American FDA and European FSA. Some studies have also recommended further investigation into possible connections between aspartame and negative effects such as headaches, brain tumors, brain lesions, and lymphoma.[11][12][13] These findings, combined with possible conflicts of interest involving CEO Donald Rumsfeld in the approval process, have engendered vocal activism regarding the possible risks of aspartame.[14][15] The 2004 documentary Sweet Misery: A Poisoned World voices these same concerns."

If you're a diabetic try taking 2 tsp. of cinnamon a day or get cinnamon capsules (walmart has them). It helps lower glucose levels! :howdy:

I use French Vanilla creamer :yum:

I used to use a little milk and three teaspoons of sugar in my coffee, then I was turned on to French Vanilla creamer (the liquid NOT the crappy powder) and now I wonder how I ever drank it any other way. Haven't used sugar since!
