I always tell the teacher before school starts that if she ever needs anything for the classroom to let me know, and I will get it for her. We do this instead of selling the overpriced crap that the school wants them to sell. I'd rather spend $20.00 on school supplies and have the teacher benefit from the entire $20.00, than spend $20.00 on some 8 oz. cheesecake that is gonna sit in the freezer for 2 years, and the school only gets $4.00 for.

I am thinking that we will send in a box of pencils (as in big box from BJ's), a couple boxes of crayons, some glue sticks and a couple pair of scissors, all in a nice storage box that can be re-used, and also put in a GC for Target/Circut City/Best Buy/Borders.

:yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

After many times of replaying it you can hear the marijuana part...

That last part was " Clearly you have THC in your system"....

Man did this take some research and some good listening skills.... Hope this help whoever wants to know..

Edit:
It also sounded like "Carey had THC in her system".

I appreciate gifts from the kids more than anything. Notes, pictures they draw...The value of teaching children to say thank you/show their appreciation extends my lessons in the classroom about manners, saying please and thank you, etc. All of that seems unimportant these days. It's easy to buy a gift/gc, but taking the time to make a craft, etc., has more intrinsic value. Some of my favorite gifts, Paint n Pottery craft that a student made and personalized for me, a watering can that was painted, a painted flower pot...That being said, some parents/families just don't have the time, and being next week, I had a parent give a large plastic bowl with popcorn, balloons and a gc for Blockbuster that was a "wow" for the class to see, and fun for me. Bulletin borders, window clings, sticky tack, glue sticks, pencils, vis'a'vis markers, permanent markers, post-it notes (all sizes), note cards (thank you, birthday...), note pads, instrumental cd's for classwork times, are all needed throughout the year. I hope this helps. Give from the heart and it will be appreciated!! :howdy:

former teacher here...

gift certificates FOR HER would be great!!!!!! yes - teachers do pay for their classroom kids - not just supplies - but extra goodies for behavior rewards and class parties. i used to throw a big popcorn shindig when my kids collectively got 100's on their spelling tests. (talk about motivation!) i also did big fun stuff for class compliments - we always worked on manners and if the kids got 20 good compliments that 'the teacher' heard in front of the kids - we'd have a big blowout! :D

but, back on topic - anything for HER is appreciated. ie: g/c to starbucks, massage, local restaurants, bath and body works, movie tickets, etc.

We had someone come to Rick's for teacher gift certificates this week. I agree that this is the way to go, let the teacher treat themselves to something they normally wouldn't because they're spending their personal $ on supplies!

KUDOS TEACHERS!!!!!!

Hmmm...

I have been teaching a while and MS/HS has plenty of everything: A big surprise would be: a certificate to Outback...or even a gift card to Educate & Celebrate--I have never objected to a cert. from Border's either!

Please...no more mugs filled with peppermints or fuzzy critters with cute saying on them!

A note from our PTA this morning had the following schedule for next week:

Monday: Breakfast will be provided to the staff (donuts from the Fractured Prune...)
Tuesday: All staff will receive a special surprise in the morning
Wednesday: Lunch prepared by parents, lunch shifts will be covered by parent volunteers!! :yum:
Thursday:"Spoil the Staff Day", expect some surprises
Friday: All staff will receive a special book. Teachers will be given cards from the students to put in their books. (This is a favorite, each year we receive a flower pot, key chain...to add items to that the children bring in to us)

WOW!!! Elementary or Middle? That would be a logistics nightmare for high school. Great Mills is sponsoring a "treats" table and requesting the parents to help out if they can with baked goods, fruit, etc on May 10th to be dropped off in the main office. I like the book idea a bunch and am shooting for something like that at the end of the school year instead. Just can't figure out how to contact all the parents.

This is elementary (I'm on leave today  ). Our parents have a phone chain that is set up at the beginning of the year. Our principal/supervisors help out with the lunch coverage as well. I'm sure the "treats" table will be a big hit.

My son's class is having an end of the year picnic with parents invited; hoping to get some phone numbers then, I'm certain we could have planned more if we could have only connected. It's so much easier in elementary, smaller groups, parents are more enthusiastic, kids still speak to you at that age. Hope your week goes well.

[ Hope your week goes well.[/QUOTE]

Thank you! You're right, I love the enthusiasm with the younger kids and their parents!
