Sunscreen for your face

I've been hitting the jackpot lately with the new skincare stuff I've been trying so I thought I'd share a couple finds since it was a long hard road to discover them. Lately I've been having an issue with hyperpigmentation after a blemish and I use retinol so I need at least SPF 30 if I even think about going outside. I've been using Neutrogena Sport Face SPF 70+ when I exercise outside and Clinique City Block SPF 40 as my normal daily sunscreen.

Neutrogena Sport Face is pretty comparable to their other sunscreens and costs like $7 for a good sized tube that will probably last well beyond it's expiration date. It goes on pretty greasy but after a few minutes it has more of a powdery finish (sort of like their dry touch stuff but not quite as silky feeling). You can definitely tell it's on your face, but it feels more like a foundation and less like a heavy duty sunscreen. I think this would be great for the beach or pool because it doesn't slide off when you sweat and doesn't leave you looking really greasy. I used my SIL's Clinique suncreen stick for faces last year and looked and felt like a greasy french fry. Needless to say that broke me out. :lmao:

The Clinique City Block is amazing. It's slightly tinted, so it may not be good for people with darker skin as it doesn't come in different shades. It's marketed as a primer and it works nicely in that regard, but I've just been wearing it by itself. It doesn't give quite the same effect as a tinted moisturizer but it just kind of smooths everything out. It's oil free and gives a bit of a dewy finish. Makeup usually makes my t-zone oily after a few hours and that wasn't a problem with this. It lasts all day and is a physical sunblock with some chemical sunblock in there as well, for those that care about that sort of thing. It's $19 but I got it for $16 at the NEX.

Just a little rave from the sunscreen queen. :lmao:

Thanks for the Review! I've been using the Cetaphil Facial Sun Block on my face, and using stuff that's on Sale for the rest. Thanks again for the Reviews.

What about those of us that are just this side of ghost when ir comes to skin tone? Most tinted lotions are way to dark for me, do you think the clinique would be light enough?

Thanks for the tips. I don't have sensitive skin but sunscreen always burns my face and makes it itch. I'll try the Clinique :yay:

I have fair skin also - when I buy foundation I usually need the second lightest shade. I'd say the City Block is about a shade lighter than my natural skintone, which freaked me out at first because I used a big glob.* Once you work it in it seems to absorb and adjust to fit your skin color, although I probably wouldn't use it if I had an olive complexion because it might leave a grayish cast. The great thing about non-drugstore cosmetics is that you can just pop over to a makeup counter and try it out to see if it works with your coloring. Another thing to note about the City Block is that it's safe to use around your eyes.

* The only issue I've had with this is finding the right amount to use. You obviously don't want to use too little, but if you use too much the excess flakes right off as you're blending which is slightly unnerving.

I use Ocean Potion face 45 under my makeup. Put it on wait 2 minutes then apply your makeup.

You could always consider professional brands, they have more power to the punch when it comes to not only protection, but treatment. In my salon, Tizo2 and Tizo 3 are popular - both are silicone based and great for under makeup. One is tinted, the other is not - neither are shiny.

Visual Changes SPF 30 has antioxidants and a tyrosinase inhibitor (brown spot reduction).

In other words, OTC sunscreens are just that - sunscreens. If you are looking for more skin 'care' in the product, a professional brand is best.

All of the major companies have them - Dermalogica, Murad, Jan Marini, Skinceuticals, PCA, to name a few.

And, as my passion......always get a professional recommendation first, it will save you a lot of $$$$$
