WOW, I thought he was doing well. Amazing how an accident can change you life forever.

The best actor to have played Superman. Although his Clark Kent was a little too wimpy, he showed that the glasses disguise could work. He adopted a different personality and bearing and even posture as Clark versus Superman. Reeve's Superman role deserved much better than the cheesy scripts he was given.

Reeve's Clark Kent wasn't just a klutz act to fool Lois. It was a heightened interpretation of how Clark/Superman really saw himself in a world in which there was no one one-to-one correspondence between an action and its supposedly equal and opposite reaction. Reeve's Superman was a triumph because it somehow embodied the precariousness of that 90-pound-weakling superhero daydream. Every step was a leap of joy.

There is nothing that irritates me more than pretentious star-####ers who try to build sophistication and nuance into something as stupid as a Superman movie.

DUR!!!!!

Yeah, the movies were watered down. But comics in general have become more sophisticated in the last 20 years, partly because DC and Marvel realized they were being humbled by independent comics. I always thought the Clark-Kent-as-wimp concept was stupid, and I was glad to see DC change that in the mid-'80s. My attitude was like, "C'mon, Kent, you know you want Lois! Go after her! You're the freakin' Man of Steel, for cryin' out loud!"
