Support Our Troops...

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE EMAIL AND YOU SEE WHAT IS MEANT BY RED FRIDAY.

Last week, while traveling to Chicago on business, I noticed a Marine
Sergeant traveling with a folded flag, but did not put two and two
Together. After we boarded our flight, I turned to the sergeant,
Who'd been invited to sit in First Class (across from me), and
Inquired if he was heading home.

No, he responded.

Heading out I asked?

No. I'm escorting a soldier home.

Going to pick him up?

No. He is with me right now. He was killed in Iraq .

I'm taking him home to his family.

The realization of what he had been asked to do hit me like a punch
To the gut. It was an honor for him. He told me that, although he
Didn't know the soldier, he had delivered the news of his passing to
The soldier's family and felt as if he knew them after many
Conversations in so few days. I turned back to him, extended my hand,
And said, Thank you. Thank you for doing what you do so my family and
I can do what we do.

Upon landing in Chicago the pilot stopped short of the gate and made
The following announcement over the intercom.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to note that we have had the
Honor of having Sergeant Steeley of the United States Marine Corps
Join us on this flight. He is escorting a fallen comrade back home to
His family. I ask that you please remain in your seats when we open
The forward door to allow Sergeant Steeley to deplane and receive his
Fellow soldier. We will then turn off the seat belt sign."

Without a sound, all went as requested. I noticed the sergeant
Saluting the casket as it was brought off the plane, and his action
Made me realize that I am proud to be an American.

So here's a public Thank You to our military Men and
Women for what you do so we can live the way we do.

Red Fridays.

Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing
Red every Friday. The reason? Americans who support
Our troops used to be called the "silent majority." We
Are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for
God, country and home in record breaking numbers. We
Are not organized, boisterous or overbearing.

Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends,
Simply want to recognize that the vast majority of
America supports our troops. Our idea of showing
Solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and
Respect starts this Friday -- and continues each and
Every
Friday until the troops all come home, sending a
Deafening message that ... Every red-blooded American
Who supports our men and women afar, will wear
Something red.

By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the United
States on every Friday a sea of red much like a
Homecoming football game in the bleachers. If every
One of us who loves this country will share this with
Acquaintances, coworkers, friends, and family, it will
Not be long before the USA is covered in RED and it
Will let our troops know the once "silent" majority is
On their side more than ever, certainly more than the
Media lets on.

The first thing a soldier says when asked "What can
We do to make things better for you?" is ."We need
Your support and your prayers." Let's get the word out
And lead with class and dignity, by example, and wear
Something red every Friday.

IF YOU AGREE -- THEN SEND THIS ON.

Great story, but by only wearing a certain color on a certain day, you're still silent. The best way to make your voice heard? Scream at the top of your lungs. Punch a Leftist in the mouth. Don't vote for the cut and run crowd. Call out the peace activists for the ignorant freaks they are.

THAT is a statement that isn't easily ignored.

(PS, I'm over 40, so Andy Rooney says I can speak my mind :jet:)

Also, you don't have to support the war to support the troops. We all have differing opinions.

That's like saying you don't have to support garbage to support garbage men. Without one, there is no other.

"I support you, Mr Military Man, just not the job you do. :patriot:"

I agree...I do not support this war anymore, but many peace activists or what not do not support our troops either. our troops are just doing their jobs, that is what they are here for...I just think our troops need to be recognized more.

My dad is a die hard conservative republican and he thinks GW is an idiot and thinks the war is unecessary and stupid, but he supports me in all that I do and my decision to stay in. So on that count your wrong.

We tried this in our office over a year ago when the first wear red on Friday's started circulating. Unfortunately since so many other people at our firm wore red for other reasons it just didn't catch on so we all sport support the troops magnets on our vehicles, at least by doing this we show our support everyday, not just Fridays...

Agreed. The only way their argument makes sense is if they're only there under duress, and are simply showing their character by fulfilling their obligation rather than gripe (or purposely get injured so they can go home and gripe about the war).

But most are signing up again.

So it IS a lot like saying, you support the cops, but not all the arrests they make - you support the firefighters, but not all the firefighting they do. It's stupid to claim you support someone if they are there by CHOICE - and be against WHY they are there.

The Iraq War is not the only war our troops are and/or conceivably be fighting. For example, I feel as though our fighting in Afghanistan is justified, but fighting in Iraq is not.

I will always support our troops. Supporting the war they are sent to out of no choice of their own depends on the circumstances which are used to justify it.

I'm sorry, you're completely wrong. You can support someone while at the same time have a differing opinion on things. I am for the war in Iraq, my father is against it. Just because we have differing opinions on the war, does not mean he doesn't support me in what I'm doing.

Right, right now some think because you do not agree with the war, that we don't support our troops? That is worng, you can support who ever, whether you agree with them or not. It's like telling one of our kids who may want to join the military...i do not agree with the war in Iraq, there for, i will not support you, as my child to achieve your dream or goal

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 align=right bgColor=#000000 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>I hear people saying we don't need this war
I say there's some things worth fighting for
What about our freedom and this piece of ground?
We didn't get to keep 'em by backing down
They say we don't realize the mess we're getting in
Before you start preaching
Let me ask you this my friend

Have you forgotten how it felt that day
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away?
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside
Going through a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

They took all the footage off my T.V.
Said it's too disturbing for you and me
It'll just breed anger that's what the experts say
If it was up to me I'd show it every day
Some say this country's just out looking for a fight
After 9/11 man I'd have to say that's right

Have you forgotten how it felt that day
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away?
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside
Going through a living hell
And we vowed to get the ones behind Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

I've been there with the soldiers
Who've gone away to war
And you can bet that they remember
Just what they're fighting for

Have you forgotten all the people killed?
Yes, some went down like heroes in that Pennsylvania field
Have you forgotten about our Pentagon?
All the loved ones that we lost
And those left to carry on
Don't you tell me not to worry 'bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

Have you forgotten?
Have you forgotten?

:yeahthat:

The troops are not the ones calling the shots...they are not there because they decided to go and fight this war. They are there because the President is the Commander In Chief, and he's The Decider. The troops will follow their orders to the best of their abilities no matter which country you put them in....which enemy you tell them to shoot.

It's a very crude example, but it's a bit like your favorite football team. You still support the players...even if the coach is clueless.

So do you only support the troops who are fighting in Afghanistan, or the ones in Iraq as well? And what do you mean by "support" them? I don't understand the concept of supporting someone who's doing something you don't agree with.
