PGPD Suspect in Custody in September Fatal Shooting in Suitland

Prince George’s County Police Homicide Unit detectives identified and charged a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting in Suitland in September. The suspect is 46-year-old Christopher Cross of Washington, DC. He is charged with fatally shooting 48-year-old Brian Akinfe of Temple Hills.


On September 2, 2023, at approximately 7:40 pm, patrol officers responded to Branch Avenue and St. Barnabas Road for the report of a crash involving a motorcycle. Officers located the victim in the roadway unresponsive near his motorcycle. While administering aid, first responders observed the victim was suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries on September 12, 2023.

The preliminary investigation revealed Cross and Akinfe were known to each other and were involved in an ongoing dispute.



Cross is charged with first and second degree murder and related charges. He is in custody in Washington, DC, pending extradition to Prince George’s County.
