do you have problems with foxes, raccoons? How many chickens do you have and how big is your coop? Thank you ;)

I did a LOT of reading about keeping chickens safe from predators. I have not lost one yet to a predator, then again my chickens stay well protected and don't get to free range w/o supervision either.

Right now I have 23. Their current home isn't as large as I wish it was but about 200 SF. I used to have a 12' x 56' pen for them.

Suzy grew up to have a crooked beak, but as long as she has deep enough food she eats well - just can't pick things up like the others with her beak. Weird how they can go from looking fine to 10 days later showing signs of a crooked beak.

Some of the chickens are rescues. The others I raised from babies.

Nice chick pic.....now ya need one all grown up...:buddies:

(10 * 20) / 23 = 8.6956521739130434782608695652174 sf/chicken

That's not very nice.

Yeah I know - I'm working on more space for them ...

if it makes you feel any better, the 2 roosters spend most of their time ON TOP of the hens, so you can minus the separate SF they need from the group :killingme

I sell eggs to support the feed the chickens eat and any leftover $$ goes toward the rescue. My eggs come in several different colors - white, all shades of brown, and green also. I have a variety of chicken breeds ....

I sell my eggs for $3 a dozen - seems pricey compared to the Amish selling theirs for $2, but keep in mind MY chickens are happier than theirs because my chickens get HUGS regularly :smoochy:

I get about 14-16 eggs a day so I can provide many dozen eggs a week that are very fresh.

You can trim crooked beaks.

Yes I have trimmed her beak - not being experienced at it I didn't do a LOT of trimming. She's hard to catch now (didn't used to be).

Are you experienced at it? Maybe I can get her a beak-trim appt. with you? I surely don't know what I'd doing ....
