Well, crap. The introductory lessons are taught between the hours of 8:00 - 10:00, M, T, W, Th - not conducive to people who have to work for a living.
They also hold lessons in the fall and I believe they are in the evening, but don't quote me. I'd put in a call to Great Mills pool and ask them yourself.

K is on the swim team for Breton Bay and I am transporting her to and from practice and meets 5 days a week w/the help of her step-mom.

When is the most appropriate time to start swim lessons for a young' 'un?

And where in the mid- to- lower St. Mary's County area?

Anyone have personal experiences to share?

The earlier you start your kids, the better. Hickory Hills has lessons available to anyone/everyone ....to call for info 301-863-8271

We've taken Baby Bubba to my sister's pool, and he completely loves it there. He loves being in the water - a BIG bathtub! - and he seems to enjoy the movement and the spashing. I just want to make sure that he knows the right way to swim. With multiple family members living on the water, it's just smart to make sure that he knows how to swim as strongly as possible, and as early as possible.

That's your answer. If you have access to a pool (for free) that he can play in regularly - just let him play. He'll get it. If there's other kids that's even better. We put up a pool, came up to her chin, when daughter was 5. In one summer she was floating and somewhat swimming. By second summer she was swimming underwater and treading water. Last summer she started wanting to use a diving board. This summer she's jumping off the pier into the river, she can almost swim better than I can.
