Suppose that there were any coherent US International policy. I know, I know, that's ludicrous.
But does it make any sense to gut the Defense budget and continue riding in like the cavalry every time somebody has trouble in the world? Who died and left us in charge? Right, nobody.
Protecting our "own interests" shouldn't always entail making a military or diplomatic move. Sometimes protecting our own interests should entail using the natural resources we have to fuel our insatiable appetites.
Israel lives in a dangerous neighborhood, and so our presence in the area is rarely small. But sailing and flying in because the monkeys keep doing what monkeys do (and have always done), makes little sense to me.
On a slightly different tack, I find it interesting that controlling certain weapons doesn't work any better on an International scale than it does here at home. Outlawing Chemical Weapons did nothing to save the lives of those attacked by them.
Are we learning anything here? No? What a shocker.
