T-t-taxes?

I just considered it a little odd that I received my state refund just over two weeks ago, but had not yet received my federal refund, although the returns were submitted on the same day. According to the IRS's "Where's My Refund?" link, I should get my deposit credited today!

If you used TurboTax when filing you will print filing paperwork after receiving your reciept confirmation number which includes any forms necessary for snail mailing and there will be an address with them. If you used some other e-file service then that site should direct you to the address needed or allow you to print out the paperwork which should include the address.

I used turbotax, I will look at the forms again tonight.

I sent the federal stuff out yesterday..

I wouldn't have had to send them out, but I couldn't locate our tax information from last year.(everything is packed right now)

I am aware of that "feature" of the 2002 tax year TurboTax product, but it isn't adware or spyware as you identified it, it was Macrovision Safecast that prevents you from illegally copying and sharing your purchased product with others by locking the access code for use on one and only one machine. Additionally Intuit pushed an update for removing the C-Dilla folders once you are done with the product. This is embedded protection and nothing more. Is that spyware or adware in your mind? I say it isn't and thus your claim is still as bogus as it originally was or did you fail to read the linked information at http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,3973,826594,00.asp ?

So in other words :biteme:

Side question: I know there is a 1-800 number that you can dial to check on the status of your federal tax return. You must first give your SSN, your refund amount, and a few other identifying bits of data before you get to the refund status.

But does anybody have that 1-800 number? I've misplaced it. :bawl:
if you'll pm me your SSN and DOB...i'll call for you.

Its piss poor copy protection at best, it creates a log file, installs without people knowing about (or was intended to), caused problems on some peoples computers, and created such an uproar there are many articles written about it on the net.

What do you suppose those log files were intended for?

How do you figure it was piss poor? It deactivates the CD RW drive and hosed up other software, sounds rather effective to me as a means to prevent the making of an illegal duplicate of the product. And if you are worried about items unknowingly being installed on your system you probably shouldn't be connected to the Internet to begin with. Most of us have been hit with viruses, spyware, and adware over the years and I would be willing to bet that they didn’t come from using an Intuit product.

Bottom line - choose your poison, they all have risks. I just don’t care to deal with or to expose my information to tax-preparers that hire temps for the season to process returns nor do I care for my data to become a piece of that database.

Yes, and I actually do taxes for people, as a side business and agree. I have been doing them for 16 years. When you use to have to do it by hand, it was a PITA, required skill and time, now it is fairly easy, just follow the easy step guide.

:yeahthat:

I used to do my own taxes and then had a complex year as well. I gave my shoebox to a Tax Preparing Authority (TPA) who never filed my returns because they were too complex even for him. At that point, I realized my returns would not get much easier and I just had to sit down and learn how to do it. And I'm so glad I did - I learned so much and discovered that if a TPA had done my taxes I probably wouldn't have gotten as big a refund because I would not have known to tell him about weird little deductions that I was eligible for. Also, I would not have known how to plan my future finances to maximize my returns -- for example I discovered I was about to exceed the max AGI for student loan interest deduction and so I put extra $ into a Thrift Savings Plan the following year to lower my AGI enough to qualify for the deduction. I got so good that for the past few years I've helped a TPA by doing the first draft of 1040s for his clients. What amazed me is that this TPA didn't have any big secret - we used Turbo Tax.
