Wait a minute!

Tariffs are just taxes on imported goods? So when you spend your hard-earned working money on purchases, you're paying hiked-up taxes?

And in exchange, income tax may go away?

Well, hell, that's something I've long been in favor of!

And just like anything else, it's gonna hurt for a while during the transition. If he can pull this off, this is a BIGGLY UGE! win-win.

If by "funny" you mean "****ing infuriating".....

:burning:
No, not at all I find hypocrites funny because the morons think that no one remembers anything and believe that they won't be called out on it. If I found it infuriating, I would be pissed of all the time and I refuse to be brought down to that level. Life is too FU*KIN short for that nonsense!

The way I see it -

It's gonna hurt in the short term, which I hope is brief enough for people to see that it will work.
If they're SO VERY BAD - then all of these nations that have been using them must certainly be suffering - and they are not.
It's only a concern - IF YOU'RE BUYING imports. If you're buying American - it's irrelevant.

But - nothing I have seen shows that we will be able to come CLOSE to eliminating income taxes based on the amount that tariffs bring in.

HOWEVER - should the consequence of tariffs be concentration of jobs, especially manufacturing jobs be either returning or starting in this country - it will be a good thing, our economy can improve and we will have the kind of jobs really highly qualified people will want from every country.

I had heard - for DECADES - that the U.S. has moved past the need to be a manufacturing country - and that THAT was a natural progression for advanced nations. Well no one told nations like Japan - or Germany - or China - and so on. They're at the top of their game in manufacturing because they make good stuff and they've automated a lot. There's no reason we can't do the same.

During WW2 we were manufacturing so many weapons tanks, aircraft we had our women working overtime at it.
If a nation loses it's ability to make their own steel how will they make tanks airplanes and other weapons.
We never want to be so silly as to not make our own products.

How are we going to produce tires with no rubber trees?

Not everything can be made here nor does it need to be. If another country can do it cheaper why not let them while we focus on what we do well and export that.

We need to focus on tech like chips not making plastic crap paying employee's $7.25 an hour

And you can still get that cheap crap dumbass as long as they practic “allow our products in their markets.”

Give a vigorous shake to your head. Maybe something will rattle into place.

By importing the "raw material" (which btw is only about 40% of total rubber content, the other 60% of rubber is synthetic). The major sources for natural rubber come from Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Malaysia, negotiating for better trade deals to level the field is a worthwhile endeavor.

some people are only worth $7.25 an hour, why don't you want them to have a job?

That's exactly the attitude that got us in this mess.

We should all want and expect more for our fellow American's. The better other people around me do the better i do.

We can certainly afford to pay people a living wage here. And we have to admit there are things its better to let other countries do.

Why bother? those are unskilled jobs we need less of. Thats not going to enrich our economy or our people by giving them low level factory jobs.
