Tater Tot Casserole

See, the whole thing about spreading the raw ground beef in the bottom of the casserole is that it creates the base for the sauce (COM soup & cheddar cheese) & Tater Tots. The sauce seeps into the beef, but also the bottom of the Tots, which makes the whole thing work together. It's supposed to be simple.

Of course, not everyone will like the combination of the ingredients in this particular recipe - but it is not the same if you brown the ground beef first and spread it at the bottom of the casserole.

This ^^

But I suppose people can make whatever they want to suit their taste. I personally love the original classic TTC, with the recipe Bann posted.

:yeahthat:

I buy a London Broil or Sirloin Roast and have it ground in the store (lean that you usually don't find pre-ground and I buy the meat on sale)

If Dutch finally gets Bambi's Dad or Mom this season I will do the casserole with venison.

I'll save you some!

can you taste any form of mushroom? :dead: I want to try this, but I can't stand the taste of mushrooms. They taste like dirt to me. :barf:

The thought of using raw ground beef sounds a little gross to me, but I really, really want to try this. Could I sub cream of celery, cream of chicken or cream of potato soup for the mushroom? Would that work you think?

I was just going to ask the same thing about the soup. Does anyone think any other kind of soup would work? I haven't been able to stomach the thought of COM soup since it made me extremely sick while pregnant. :cds: But this casserole sounds interesting.

Why? Ground beef is raw when you patty it into hamburgers or make a meatloaf.

because I hate the thought of raw ground beef at all :killingme I hate touching it (I use gloves to make patties, meatloaf, meatballs etc. :roflmao:) smelling it, looking at it, I don't like seeing blood in the package. Pretty much everything besides the taste is gross. ............ I really should be a vegan :killingme but like the taste too much.

We really should start a "I hate Mushrooms" personal forum. :high5:

Finishing last
Tried it but think I need to raise the rack. Didn't seem to cook as quick as the recipe said. Had to give it an extra 1/2 hour. Nice food and easy to fix.:yay:

mine took longer to cook too, but I think that's because I used more hamburger than it called for and more cheese. ALOT more cheese, my tater tots sank into the cheese

It looked gross. So gross, that I made my sister be the taste tester. :roflmao: She said "It tastes alot better than it looks!"

I will confess, I picked out all the little pieces of mushroom I could find though. :killingme

Would THIS face lie?
OK, I tried it the other night....Son & DIL came over and everyone really liked it...I didn't have any of the 93-97% fat free HB so I browned it and poured off most of the drippins...Put the COM soup & cheese and TT...Just heated it until it bubbled....I am thinkin about maybe adding some salsa to the HB next time...Just to give it a little more umph...Will be doing it again...

Kinda like redneck sheperds pie. I cooked the beef first and drained the fat...I have to admit it was pretty good for such a simple meal.

Well, you are definitely a redneck...soooooooo...guess it fits..;yay:
