Tech overload

Boy dug out a brand new Ipod his grandad gave him months ago and we were in loading the software and crap on his computer. It was fairly painless until I went to iTunes and started browsing around. Max overload.

Between cell phones, iPods, computers GPS and all the other gadgets I am going to lose my damn mind. I long for the good old days of sitting on the floor with a screw driver and a peice of paper with crappy assembly instructions trying to fit flange A into support post C.

Calgon take me away. :drama:

Well I am going to let him play around on iTunes listening to samples and crap. If he thinks he is going to jump on and download a crapload of shiatty hip hop songs he is sadly mistaken. I may let him dowload 5 a month or something IF he performs manual labor around the house.

I am just not sure how to do it so that he and his pals can't go in and download $100 worth of junk. I did see something about an "allowance". I just have to figure it all out.

Word to the wise, back those tunes up if you buy any from Apple for him. There's a feature in Itunes that lets you back them up to a CD or DVD.

Anyone have any info on that subject? What happens if you pay for the song, download it to your PC, don't back it up, and then the hard drive dies?

Gotchya.. I looked at Rhapsody myself earlier today simply because that seems compatible with the new LG Dare Cell phone I am getting tomorrow.

So at this point I guess you are one step ahead of me as I am sure once I sign up I'll have to figure out the same stuff.

I bought the GF a new Laptop. It's hers. She can figure it out. Bought her son a PSP. That's his problem :yay: My boys are getting bikes and skateboards. :lmao:

My mother is getting a LCD Flatscreen TV. I'll mount it and hook it up but she has to figure it out. But I am sure I'll get a few calls asking how to turn it on.

For myself I am getting a Nikon D90 DSLR camera and an LG Dare cellphone and a few Remote controlled helicopters and a new scanner. So I'll have enough manuals to read to keep me occupied.

I don't know crap about this iPod thing. I am not even sure that itunes is what he should use. I have a Dare and he has a Glyde and from what I can tell they are not compatible with iTunes.

Seems like a waste to buy songs that you can't drop onto your phone if you want.

My GPS can hold 1,000 mp3's but I doubt it is compatible with Itunes either.

This is all so maddening.

Probably too late for those of you who already have iPods. But if you go with the Microsoft Zune you pay a $15 per month subscription fee and have access to virtually unlimited downloads. Occasionally, there's a new song that isn't included in the monthly fee. But after a couple of months the fee is removed and you can download that too. Much easier to budget than iTunes.

I read that on the site as well. Far as I can tell the iPod and computer sync each other. If you download the stuff, then sync it to your iPod, then your iPod or computer dies when you reconnect the replacement to the old unit it will sync and match it up. Of course if you have 10,000 songs on your computer and only 5,000 on your iPod and you computer dies you lose the 5,000.

Do they have a support group for parents who cannot keep up with this crap?

OK so there is iTunes, Zune and Rhapsody. I know Rhapsody works with my cell phone, wonder if Zune does? Far as I can tell iTunes is limited to only working with an iPod or a iPhone, is that correct?

I looked into the Ipod & Iphone. But I wanted Verizon Wirless so the LG Dare is verizons equal to the iphone. Along with the bill you can opt for a Rhapsody subscription which works withthe Dare. So I went that route.

I saw several converter programs out there. Not familiar with them but they do have them

Itunes can lick a perspiration covered semi-spherical body protuberance. Two of them even....Honestly, at least on a PC. Intuitive my happy A##>

I'm a fairly technical person, Ive built and maintained my own computers, have built a pretty decent home theater system, programmed countless universal remotes, wired my whole house with phone and coax, added a whole house video distribution system. Itunes is a horrible interface. Especially for multiple Ipods. Maybe its just me, but I find Itunes to be a nightmare.
