gives away software for free, but you have to agree to be SPAMMED by them for a year in exchange for the privelege...

As far as tips, that's a pretty broad category, usually for stuff like that, it's best to narrow down to a specfic forum for the time/tech in general. AVSforums, for instance, is a great place for home theater stuff.
