Teen Killed in Fiery Crash

I understand, but did this crash have anything to do with speeding? My point was that bringing attention to speeding in relation to this might be taking attention off the real reason.

You're right. The "source" Andy used even admitted they didn't see this crash and knows nothing about this crash. But since some people do speed on that road, Andy went with the scoop.

It's like the people who think every fender bender is due to texting.

Most every numbskull driver I see is texting. They're ahead of you, weaving all over the road, fluctuating speed, and when you pass to get away from them they almost always have one hand on the wheel and are looking down at their lap.

They are not always texting. They could be dialing, or surfing. Maybe reading a forum post:killingme

It can be done safely, if you have task management skills, but that's another thing we dont teach......

Then why would smnewsnet make a point of saying that the kid's name wasn't released because their kin hadn't been notified?

The name of the deceased has been identified as Juwuan Michael Stewart, 17 of Nanjemoy.

The reason that SMNEWSNET.com first wrote "The identity of the teen has not yet been released pending notification of kin." was because although the family was notified, there was not a 100% positive identification from the medical examiner.

I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned it..

"Winesses report..."

So there were people at the scene, watched him get out of his car, get back into his car and watched him burn to death..

No mention of ANY witnesses trying to save the kid..

I hope this is just a matter of the Ace Reported not including it in his story, but WTH?? People just standing by and watching a 17 year old burn to death in his car?

No. You just think it's safe because you're not paying attention and don't see yourself floating all over the road.

I would say since you havent driven with me, you dont know how I handle it. And by it, I mean talking and driving. I only text or email at stops:)

But that does not mean that every fender bender is because of texting, just like there's no reason to assume speeding had anything to do with this accident.

This bit bothers me. Unless the police of some other source indicates that this was related to speeding, WTH include this quote. If he rear ended another vehicle doing 70, chances are that he wouldn't have been able to walk away.

Mason Springs Road, La Plata, MD - Google Maps

Heres the place in question, about as flat and straight as a road gets.

The quote was included during the initial report that a car crashed in to a power line, knocking out power and closing the road... some five hours before the preliminary investigation report was released.

Does this clarify things for you?

Which initial report? The reporters? Or the police? If the reporter was on scene to talk to residents, he should have been aware that it was a rear end collison.

What does that have to do with people speeding?

The initial report being the report TheBAYNET ran about a car crashing in to a utility pole, knocking out power. The quote was relevant to the fact that accidents are frequent on that road.

Nobody was able to get near the scene of the accident.
