Teething Concern

My 8 month old has yet to pop out a single tooth. Searching says that many preemies don't develop teeth until later but he was right on time. I know kids do things on their own time, but I'm curious to see if anyone else had a late bloomer in the teething department? If so, does this make for any long term dental problems? Is he destined to have bad teeth or am I overthinking things and going with the "Mommy Freak Out" that we have so often? Any (helpful) information is greatly appreciated.

Side note: I understand that google searches are "my friend", I plan to talk to my pediatrician at his 9 month appointment but don't want to risk taking him to a dirty docs office for something so small, that each kid is different and all the other unconstructive things that some on here are prone to spewing out. I'm looking for advice from other Mommy's who won't make me worry more than I already am.

I'm a father of two and I'm telling you that you are over thinking this. My oldest didn't start getting teeth until the 10th-11th month but the youngest started getting his around the 5 month mark. I'm pretty sure that no long term dental problems are going to be an issue just because the teeth are coming in later than what "the book" states.

:yeahthat:

FYI - when the teething starts, a rawhide chew toy from the pet store works great. Get the ones that have a knot tied in each end to look like a dog bone.

My 10 month old doesn't have any teeth either...her older brother didn't get any until he was almost 1. No worries...they'll come soon enough. I've read and seen first hand w/ my son, the later they get their baby teeth, the later they lose them. My son is 12 and still has a few baby teeth that need to fall out.

Thank you all so much! I feel much much better! My older son (who is now 5) got teeth at 6 months so I've gone and freaked myself out thinking I did something wrong this time :)

He's been showing signs of teething for about 4 months now, those teeth are just stubborn! I guess I'll let him enjoy the wonders of gumming things until they pop through!

I agree with everyone so far. Don't worry about it. They will come in eventually. Hopefully you won't have a child like my youngest. With every new tooth, he'd get a ear infection and projectile vomiting. So glad those days are over. He just lost his first tooth last week (He's 5) and another one is ready to come out too.

The boy didn't get his first tooth until he was 12months, and the girls (who were 5wks early) didn't get their first teeth until 14months. I have heard that the longer your child's teeth wait to come in, the stronger they will be and the later they will lose them. Don't know if that's true or not - but your child is fine and normal :)

My oldest is a premie.. she was umm I think 13 months before she got her first teeth. She didn't walk until 15/16 months.

Out of my 3 kids she actually has the best teeth.

No premmies here....my kids got their teeth at 4.5 mo, 4 mo, 10 mo and 8 mo. I've heard it said that the later they get their baby teeth, the later they start loosing them, but...they started loosing them at 6.5 years, 5yr 2 mo, 5 yr 10mo and the last one is too young.

My aunt's son didn't get his 1st tooth until he was 11 months and he was born full term. He started losing them about 5.5 years, I think....

There are no rules to teeth. No milestone marker they should hit, no guidelines you should expect. They get them when they get them and loose them when they loose them.

My twins were 12 weeks early - they will be a year old in 2 weeks. The older of the two just popped his first and second tooth about 2 weeks ago (1 one day, and another the very next). The younger still has yet to pop one. When I last talked to their pediatrician, they told me there is no schedule - but that preemies are generally later - but there' no real rule to that!
