My wife is from Colorado, and the first time she ever got the pleasure of seeing my Dad cook and eat a Soft Crab she about lost her lunch.
My first couple of soft crab sandwiches weren't bad, but I made the mistake of taking the top of the bun off on the third one, as God as my witness I thought it was a fried tarantula.

However, NY (Long Island) has us beat hands down for almost any other seafood, lobster dishes, clams, mussels, excellent flounder, bass, etc.......

I wouldn't be surprised at that..considering how good I've found the seafood to be in Rhode Island and Massachusetts...for examples. mmmmm.

A common reaction; we were frying up a big mess of them at an event we were attending in the Tennessee mountains one time. Jumbos..served on plain ole white bread, so the legs stuck out both sides quite prominently. Some gal that happened by the cooking fire squealed "Oh my gawd..these people are cooking big spiders!!":cds:

Being from Ma, and having been stationed in Maine, I concur. First time my wife saw a $12 fried seafood platter, she thought it was two orders together.......
