Textured Ceilings

Deal breaker or not a problem?

Just depends on the rest of the house. But then again, I am one who can see past that kind of stuff. Our place was ugly as ugly gets when it came to it's interior decor, but it had "good bones". I liked the layout of our house so we bought it. Ugly flowered wallpaper and all. I don't think a textured ceiling would be a deal break, it probably also isn't worth the time and cost to change it. JMO.

We had thought about stripping our textured ceiling off because we liked the idea of smooth ceilings. But then thought it best to just paint over it with a thick nap roller.

But really its all up to your own tastes as to wether or not its a deal breaker.

All ceilings sag. Textured ceilings hide that. I have textured ceilings. I didn't think I'd like them at first, but I do. Painting them hasn't presented a problem, either.

My house had textured ceilings in it and I hated it. It wasn't really that hard to fix though, I just sanded them down, mudded over the rough spots and then painted. It came out pretty good.

You must have the patience of a saint. My ceilings are lightly textured and as all say it hides imperfections.

I remember in the 70's we had an apartment that had textured walls and some sadist must have lived there because they were very spiked. My brother used to push me into the walls all the time. My mom would get mad cuz we broke the points off.

See what kind of evil memories are conjured up from a simple question? I am going to go hide in the closet now!!!! :lmao:

Depends on how patient and handy you are. They are a bear to clean and/or paint, and trying to get rid of them is messy and time-consuming. Plus people tend to use them to hide problems (cracks, sags, etc) in the ceiling that you would notice otherwise.

We have textured ceilings. Like flat paint, it the sign of a lazy, untalented builder who is trying to hide flaws. Since it would bug me more to see the flaws, I'll stick with the textured ceilings.

Are we talking "popcorn" ceilings? Or those "swirled" ceilings?

I can't believe the people who have trouble with these ceilings. :lmao: I use the broom to get the dust off, and I used a regular roller to paint them.

It was a deal breaker in building our house. I explicitly stated to our builder that we wanted Finished Ceilings. It does cost a little extra but well worth it in the end. You have to have a really good finisher to have it that way.

I had one of those "popcorn" ceilings in my other house and the only thing that would get the paint on was a really nappy roller. Plus it took tons of paint to get it to cover.

:yeahthat: We have popcorn ceilings. I remember having to help my parents scrape all that crap off in our childhood home and didn't want to have to do it again. :jameo: We painted our ceilings the same color as our walls, so it's barely noticeable.
