Thank you notes

Is this a lost tradition? On my recent trip I spent the weekend with an old buddy and his wife in Augusta, Ga and they showed me a great time. I was thinking of a way to show my appreciation and then I remembered a box of "Thank you notes" I had in my desk drawer.

I just finished it and dropped it in the mail. I feel good now :yay:

Anyone else use them any more?

Absolutely. Well, at least I do. I have a cousin who never sent thank yous for wedding gifts or shower gifts.

I do. But certainly seems to be a lost art. I know when my kids graduated, etc. they always sent thank you cards..and I made sure of it.

Never got one from my brother's kids for their graduation gifts. :boo:

I sure do! :yay: I just know how I appreciate knowing that my efforts (whatever) were appreciated enough for someone else to take the time to send a Thank You note, so I make sure to send them too.

I haven't received a thank you for a wedding gift I sent to someone last year. Did she not receive the gift, or is she just rude? I have no idea.

I am so very blessed
I love getting thank you notes AND sending them. If someone is thoughtful enough to give you a gift, it's only right to thank them for it.

You would think notes for gifts would still be a given. I got the box a long time ago when Boy was little and I was still in the Navy, broke and people would help me out and watch him for me when I had duty or something.

I remember one time he was about 2 and I got the flu from hell. I slept all day and went to get him from daycare and had to pull over to hurl twice on the way back home. I took him over to my buddy's house and rang the bell. When they came to the door I said "help". They took boy and took care of him until later that night when he went to sleep. I woke up and heard a snow blower. It snowed about 2 feet that night and my buddy snow blowed my driveway and his wife brought Boy over and tucked him in. I don't recall ever being more appreciative. Being broke a gift was not really an option so I bought a box of cards and sent them one.

I have hand written a thank you for every baby gift I have been given for my babies. My cousin had 2 baby showers. Never once sent out thank you's. I along with the other girl that threw the showers suggested it. She just said "no, I'll tell them there.". I've been to several weddings over the past few years and give my usual $50 in a card. I've never received a thank you. I was raised to write thank you's for my birthday presents as a kid. I guess it is not standard practice anymore.

Yes. I still send them. People really appreciate getting a note of any kind.

I sure do! I like to pick up a couple of nice ones here and there for a special lady out west who is very thoughtful of me and keep a pack handy in the event I may need them. People also seem to enjoy photos in addition to actual mail. With everything going electronic, the hands on sincerity kind of gets lost.

We send out thank you notes for everything, my wife is adamant about this. This week the little guy has to send out thank you notes for everything from his birthday.

in this case I would have attached the note to a floral arrangement - :D
But yes, a "Thank you" note, be it on a card or just a piece of paper was the proper thing to do. You probably gave them a heart attack because so few people do it.
