Thanksgiving menu ideas

Thanksgiving is so traditional that I have a standard menu that has to be served to please everyone but I am looking for additional suggestions that are good. We have to have: Turkey, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans, Corn and Stuffing. I also make baked kale for me! Husband won't touch it.

Any interesting additions out there?

What about something with sweet potatoes?

I make a wild rice dish for different occasions, and everyone seems to love it

Fry 1/2 pound bacon and chop
Soften a diced bell pepper and onion
Mix together in casserole with cooked wild rice and a can of each cr. of shrimp, celery, and mushroom soup (or it may be chicken, I have to double check)

Pour water over the top until there is a thin layer above the rice

Then there are fatty cheesy potatoes. You use cream cheese, milk, butter, cheddar cheese, and hash browns.

MMmmmm... that's how I make my taters, sour cream, cream cheese, butter, half and half instead of milk. It's on the DIET menu for sure so don't worry

We have a newish family tradition of serving pineapple souffle. It started with my sister's mother in law. She started to attend with our family when her husband died (my BIL is an only child). It's really surprisingly good, though is likely sounds ghastly. I can dig up a recipe if it sounds interesting.

Acorn squash makes an interesting change of pace. Just bake with some butter, brown sugar & REAL maple syrup.

Creamed carrots or creamed spinach. What's Thanksgiving without additional calories.

Cranberry relish made with bagged cranberries and citrus fruits. Lots of recipes online.

These sound interesting, is it a cream sauce or are they pureed?

Heat up milk and flour to make a cream sauce, drain the peas and add them to the sauce. Add sugar, amount depends on how sweet you want it. Heat for about 10 minutes and your done.

My mom used to make that gross chit and put pearl onions in it.

:barf:

If I were going to start a new TG food tradition, which wouldn't happen because there are already too many foods to choose from, I'd go with fried corn.

Fry up chopped bacon and onion, drain grease and add corn, cook until done. YUM!

Fresh Cranberry Relish

One 12-ounce bag of fresh or frozen cranberries
1/3 to 1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup orange juice
1/4 cup orange liqueur such as Grand Marnier or Triple Sec
2 to 3 tablespoons orange marmalade

If using fresh cranberries, wash, pick through, and dry them thoroughly.
In a medium saucepan, mix 1/3 cup of sugar with the cranberries and the remaining ingredients. Taste to adjust sweetness and add more sugar if desired.
Place over medium-high heat and simmer, stirring occasionally until the berries pop.
You may serve hot or cold.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. Biggest problem is my husbands family is so picky about what they will eat that "new" dishes go to waste. I have to really want to eat it all week!
