I want to thank my neighbors here in Nanjemoy for waking up our entire household with their irresponsible and illegal shotgun blasts at 11:55pm last night. Know that in the future I will not bother to very loudly remind you that this is a G*****n NEIGHBORHOOD not your personal F****** firing range, nor will I hesitate to phone ChasCo's Finest to personally extend to them an invitation to your festivities: I'm sure they will be very interested in your distinguished service to the Nation, to this community and to the Lord...And they will likely not advise me to watch my G******language in light of your F****** stupidity. And stay offa my lawn...And where'd my flying monkeys go? They are always off on a lark when I need them.

Here is an Idea

Takes a little work

Take two metal fence post cement them in the ground on each side of the drive. Stretch aircraft cable between the two poles.

I knew a friend that had a problem with the neighborhood kids getting their kicks knocking and bashing mailboxes off the posts. Every Friday or saturday night. Eventually he filled it with cement.

He said you could hear them coming Bang, Bang, Bong :cds: glass smashing. wheels squeeling,

They were using a metal baseball bat, the bat hit the box broke is arm smashed the rear door glass out of the car. They don't do that any more either.:killingme

While I sympathize with the person who's property is being torn up, setting what amounts to a booby trap could end up costing them more money than the repairs.

You can do a lot of things until someone gets injured. Not sure which chapter and verse it's in, but I've been told that you can't booby trap your property.

You can put a gate across the driveway, you could put a cable across as long as it was visible. But you can't put something that's designed more to injure than deter entry.

Just because it's private property doesn't mean people aren't gong to enter the lane accidentally

It might not be illegal to shoot a gun into the air, but remember what goes up must come down. In Cecil County Maryland a 10 year old girl died a few days after she was hit in the head by a bullet. Seems she and other family members were outside watching fireworks and some people in the neighborhood were firing guns into the air New Years Eve. Officials said that she was hit in the top of the head. Police have not been able to determine where the shot came from.

Feel free to move, we will appreciate it. And NO, you aren't getting any more sidewalks or street lights....You live in an area where people choose to get away and be able to do "what they want" on their property. Perhaps they don't know your sleeping habits, perhaps they were shooting wild animals, maybe poaching. If you want to be your brothers keeper....Go talk to them and find out what they are up to, maybe they will be civil and talk back............or maybe they'll make you squeal like a pig :whistle:

Agreed, and the cable must be flagged so it is visible. Automatic gates and solar have come a long way in reliability. Mailbox gives more flexibility because it belongs to the post office once erected. Just happen to know someone that has made their mailbox out of 1/4" thick metal plate and it's sitting atop of a 6" I-beam. Our area, they used to have a bad habit of running over boxes, they would leave tire tracks on each side of the post. That problem has been resolved.

We have an amish friend who had a problem with his mailbox being hit atleast weekly. He created and made a mailbox out of steel on a lever or spring (not quite sure which) but when it is hit, it swings out of the way and pops back up into place. If nothing else it saves him the headache of having to fix it constantly. I am sure there are commercial ones out there that do the same thing.
